Udupi, Feb 16: Block Congress committee president Ramesh Kanchan urged the ruling BJP government to consider the attack on fishermen of Karnataka by those from other states seriously and provide protection for them.

Kanchan further said, “Attack of various types are carried out on poor fishermen in sea, when they go for fishing in deep sea water. It is really painful that the fishermen who earn their livelihood by daring the seas are not protected.

“Sometimes the fishermen meet with accidents and at other times they are attacked by fishermen of neighbouring states. It is condemnable that fishermen of other states attacked the fishermen of Karnataka at 50 nautical miles from Kanyakumari with stones, glass and wooden logs and took away all the fish worth lac of rupees.

“The ruling BJP state government should wake up immediately and stand by the fishermen community and take suitable action against the neighbouring state fishermen who have conducted the atrocities. MLAs, MPs of coastal region should exert pressure on CM and should urge Tamil Nadu government to take suitable action,” he said.
