Shivamogga/Davangere, Mar 17: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who has been touring Shivamogga and Davangere districts as part of the ruling BJP’s Vijaya Sankalpa Yatra along with his predecessor B S Yediyurappa on Friday, announced that the government would release Rs 5 crore for developing the birth place of Allama Prabhu in Balligavi village of Shikaripur taluk in Shivamogga district.

He launched various developmental programmes in the two districts and also unveiled the 51-ft tall statue of Akkamahadevi erected by Yediyurapa at Udutadi in Shikaripur taluk besides inaugurating the Aksharadhama model pilgrim centre.

Bommai also promised to release Rs 10 crore for the construction of the building for the Women’s University besides complete development of the Shivanapada pilgrim centre at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

Lavishly praising Yediyurappa for the developmental works implemented by him in the State and also in Shikaripur taluk, the Chief Minister said the government will extend all support for developing the taluk into a model for the entire State.

Bommai said Ramakrishna Hegde and Yediyurappa were the only two leaders, who had developed other leaders, and asserted that there was no question of Yediyurappa retiring from politics and public life as people will never allow it. The State needs more leaders like Yediyurpapa, he said.

Sri Murugharajendra Swamiji of Anandapur, Yediyurappa, ministers Govind M Karjol and B A Basavaraj, MLA Kumar Bangarappa and BJP MP B Y Raghavendra and others were present.

He later inaugurated several developmental programmes at Honnali taluk in Davangere district.

'Elect us based on our performance'

The Chief Minister, in his speech at Honnali in Davangere district, urged the people to vote for the BJP government based on its performance as the State Government has brought about a positive change in the State.

He said his government has implemented a series of programmes for the welfare of the State and different regions, especially during the flood havoc.
