Mangaluru, Mar 20: BavabeeduGopi S Bhandary Rural Health Training Center at Ira village established by the Nitte (Deemed to be University) was inaugurated by the honorable chancellor of the Nitte (Deemed to be University) N Vinay Hegde on Sunday.
The University has a total of 22 rural health centers and the newest addition to the list has been inaugurated on Sunday at Ira village. The center is managed jointly by the K S Hegde Medical College and A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences of the Nitte (Deemed to be University). The center offers state-of-the-art medical facilities free of cost to the residents of Ira and surrounding villages. The center has a medical investigative laboratory, male and female wards, a pharmacy, a dental clinic, a minor operation theatre, a labor ward, and other important facilities.
After inaugurating the center N Vinay Hegde said, "The center is a gift by the university and the Bavabeedu family to the society. The university will continue the work of philanthropy to society. The university believes that a healthy society is the key to inclusive growth."
Prof Dr Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, vice chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) in his introductory remarks, said "The village Ira was lacking health services. The village now has a state-of-the-art facility. The Bavabeedu family feels proud to be part of this initiative supported by the honorable chancellor N Vinay Hegde. The center is established as per the norms prescribed by the government."
The chief guest of the event U T Khader, MLA of Ullala constituency expressed his gratitude to the chancellor of the Nitte (Deemed to be University) for establishing the health center. He requested the university to establish a veterinary college and an agriculture study center in the near future.
The pro chancellors of the university Prof Dr Shantharama Shetty and Vishal Hegde were the guests of honour. The retired chief justice of the Supreme Court and retired Lokayukta of the government of Karnataka N Santhosh Hegde was present. Ira grama panchayath president Agnes D’souza was the chief guest. Prof P S Prakash, dean, K S Hegde Medical Academy welcomed the guests. Prof Dr U S Nayak, principal, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences delivered vote of thanks. Prof Dr Harsha Halahalli, registrar, Nitte (Deemed to be University) was present.
