Mangalore: Electric Poles, Trees Uprooted Due to Heavy Rain in City Outskirts

Mangalore, Jun 26:
Heavy rain hit Sullia, Puttur, Beltangady taluks of DK district on Saturday June 25. Average rainfall occurred in Bantwal and Mangalore taluks.
 
Incessant rains were also witnessed in Beltangady. A large tree was uprooted in Santekatte incurring an estimated damage of Rs 1 lac. Two transformers and electric poles fell to the ground. One transformer fell on Lobo Towers. A car was also damaged after a tree fell on it. Electricity supply was disrupted.
 
Traffic was also affected on the national highway. Vehicle movement from Guruvayankere to Beltangady was halted as a fallen tree was being cleared off.
 
An hour of traffic disruption was witnessed on the Mangalore-Dharmasthala route. Mescom incurred huge lossed with two transformers and many electric poles getting damaged.
 
A tree fell on a moving school bus and on a city bus near Chitpady bus stand in Udupi, fortunately passengers escaped unhurt.

Incessant rain also occurred in Subrahmanya. Strong winds uprooted many areca nut trees in Harihara, Balugodu vicinity. Good rain occurred in Udupi and Karkala taluks while Kundapur taluk received average rainfall.

All roads via which CM Yeddyurappa is scheduled to travel on Monday while on his way to Dharmasthala are getting repaired, but drainage problems persist.
 
A landslide occurred in Gurumpu in Sullia taluk, and the condition of the road worsened as a consequence. The meteorological department has predicted heavy downpour measuring 65 mm in coastal Karnataka in the next 48 hours.
