Mangalore: Thief who Targetted College Teaching Staff Held

Mangalore, Jun 28: Qasim alias Qasi (24), a resident of Guttakadu in Kinnigol, who reportedly was engaged with stealing of bags belonging to female faculty of colleges, was arrested by the police on Monday June 27. Qasim used to draw money by using ATM cards and buy goods by using credit cards found in these bags, it is learnt.

A bag belonging to Teresa Mathias, lecturer of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing in Balmatta in the city, had been stolen on June 18. The bags contained ATM cards, pen drive, electoral identity card, Rs 1,500 in cash and other goods. The policemen of Kadri station, who registered a case and began investigation, took Qasim into custody from near Mission Compound in Balmatta here on Saturday, based on reliable information. They recovered the items belonging to Teresa, apart from ATM and credit cards, PAN cards, driving licences etc., and also some cash, belonging to various persons from Qasim.

The policemen found that he had bought bed sheets, mobile phones etc., by using the credit cards. These goods were also confiscated. It is gathered that in the recent past, he had stolen a bag belonging to a lecturer of K S Hegde Medical College in Deralakatte near here.
