Mangaluru: ICYM-PYC Gurpur conducts mega events Yuva Ektar, Rainy Food Fest competition

Mangaluru, Jul 25: The Pompei Youngster’s Club (PYC), affiliated with ICYM Gurpur unit and Youth Commission, organized the Yuva Ektar event for the youngsters of Our Lady of Pompei Church Gurpur Kaikamba on July 23 in Pompei Sabha Bhavan.

The dignitaries on the dais included Fr Rudolf Ravi D’Sa, director of ICYM - PYC Gurpur, Fr Avinash Lesley Pais as the chief guest and resource person for the event, Parish Pastoral Council vice president Romans Lobo, secretary Johnson Lobo, parish 21 commissions co-ordinator Hilda Menezes, Karnataka Regional vice president Terrence Crasta, PYC animator Godwin Tauro, PYC president Vaibhav Rodrigues, and PYC secretary Josvita D'Souza. The event commenced with a prayer song, and PYC president Vaibhav Rodrigues warmly welcomed the gathering.

The dignitaries inaugurated the event by sticking flowers, symbolizing the qualities of ICYM - PYC members, to a Tree (Art), which represented the growth of the PYC. Fr Rudolf Ravi D'Sa appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the youngsters. PYC secretary Josvita D'Souza proposed a vote of thanks. Resource person Fr Avinash Lesly Pais gave an inspiring awareness talk on the challenges faced by the youth in modern society.

Another resource person, Wilfred Pinto, chairman of Manasa Amusement Park, shared his life journey and business experiences. President of ICYM Mangalore diocese Mithesh D'Souza, secretary of ICYM Mangalore diocese Wilma Lobo, president of St Simon Deanery Kevin D'Souza, and secretary of St Simon deanery Sonali Noronha were also present at the event. PYC core committee members organized various games, including water games, for the youngsters. A total of 88 youngsters from Our Lady of Pompei Church, Gurpur, participated in the event, which was skillfully conducted by master of ceremonies, Shaila Moras.

Later in the evening, a cooking competition was held for the parishioners of Our Lady of Pompei Church, Gurpur Kaikamba. There were a total of 13 participants from different wards, each presenting their dish in a unique way. The judging panel comprised Sr Lavita, currently working as a lecturer in Father Mullers College of Nursing, and Mervin Vas, currently working as a lecturer in Yenapoya and HoD of the department of hospital administration. The teams from Kandar A Ward secured the 1st and 2nd prizes. Prizes were distributed by parish priest Fr Rudolf Ravi D'Sa and Parish Pastoral Council vice president Romans Lobo. The event concluded with the singing of the PYC anthem.
