Udupi, July 25:  “The projects and the developmental projects by the government that provide for basic necessities to the people should be implemented on top priority basis,” said district in-charge secretary Dr M T Raju.

He was speaking after presiding over the district progress review meeting at the deputy commissioner’s auditorium, Manipal on Tuesday.

“There has been heavy rainfall in the district during the last 15 days. Nine people have died so far due to floods. More rainfall and disasters are likely to occur during the coming days. Suitable precautions should be taken to prevent further destruction,” he said.

“Eleven teams of SDRF have been deployed in the district for disaster management. More than 300 volunteers are being trained,” he said.

“There were 34,561 registrations in the district under the Gruhalaxmi scheme. The registration centres should achieve their daily targets and bring them to the notice of the deputy commissioner when faced with issues,” he said.

“In all 29,790 women travelled in government-run buses in the district under the Shakti scheme during the last month. A sum of Rs 11,11,533 has been reimbursed. 2,33,291 people have registered under Gruha Jyothi scheme. More than 350 people of the Koraga community have not received BPL ration cards. They should be issued on top priority after obtaining special permission from the government,” he said.

“Guest teachers should be appointed in government schools wherever there is a scarcity. More than 250 teachers that have arrived should be assigned wherever necessary. Doctors and medical staff should provide good medical facilities to people. Better medical treatment should be provided for children found to be in need. Rehabilitation programme for endosulfan victims should also be taken up on priority. Drinking water supply through pipes should be provided in all the houses in villages under the Jalajeevan mission. All the crops should be brought under crop insurance scheme,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari, district panchayat chief executive Prasanna H, SP Akshay M Hakay, additional DC Veena B N, Kundapura division forest conservator Udaya M Nayak, Kudremukh sanctuary division DFO Ganapathi and various divisional officers were present.
