Udupi, Jul 26: BJP district president Kuilady Suresh Nayak in his strong reaction to the incident of mobile phone recording in the toilet of college, said that it is not an isolated incident but suspected to have been occurring for the last seven to eight months.

Addressing media on Wednesday July 26, he said, “The police are trying to instill fear in the victims. The incident is dirtier than the Hijab controversy. Those who question it have been suppressed. Investigate where the video has gone viral. Muslim youth are involved along with Muslim girls in it. It is spoiling the image of Udupi. The behaviour of the police department is not right. The BJP will stage protests in front of SP office on Friday.

“The incident is similar to ‘The Kerala Story’. A special team should conduct investigation into it. It should not be conducted in the leadership of the SP. The mobile that was used in the incident is costing more than a lac of rupees. Who gave costly mobile phones to the girls? An SIT should conduct investigation into it. If the state government does not act, we will draw the attention of the centre. It was not done for fun but has been happening for the last seven to eight months. The students are scared now. The forces behind the incident should be investigated. The state government is trying to push it under the carpet. We know what certificate was given to the terrorists by the home minister. The home minister is misleading the police in this case. It is not a small matter as told by home minister Parameshwar. There can be a big conspiracy behind it,” said Kuilady Suresh Nayak.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that an FIR was registered after a week. “All the mobile phones of the students should be taken into custody and the deleted photo and video should be recovered. There is a lab in Hyderabad for it. A section as per the suggestion of women’s commission should be slapped. The state government and the centre should hold joint investigations. The CCTV footage of the college for the last ten days should be obtained. Why did the police give information about cyber-crime in the college? More information is being collected. We are obtaining information including from the residences,” he said.

Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, Uday Kumar Shetty, Bykady Suprasad Shetty and others were present.
