Kundapura, Jul 29: The elections for Sastan co-operative agricultural society are scheduled to be held on Sunday July 30. The BJP staged protests in front of the society alleging that the voter’s list as permitted by the high court is not issued as per rules.

The elections will be held on Sunday, after selection of candidates, verification of nominations and other processes as per regulations of the elections. There are 2,170 voters. An individual named Shankaracharya had approached the high court in this connection.

The high court thereafter ordered that another 534 voters should be allowed to vote. However the revised list of voters was issued a day earlier. The BJP protested alleging ulterior political motive behind the delay and protested in favour of the BJP candidates.

Campaign committee leader Pratap said that the society officers and election officers are acting under political motive. “Therefore the elections should be postponed,” they urged.

BJP leader Vittal Poojary said that the elections that will be held tomorrow are unconstitutional. “We will continue our campaign. Twenty voters among those allowed by the high court have died. Allowing them to vote is laughable,” he said.

Returning officer Rohith in his reaction said that elections will be held on Sunday morning as scheduled. “The orders of the high court will be implemented,” he said.

Congress leaders said that there is no need to worry about the dead as elections will be held only for the eligible voters. On the whole, the elections have raised interest among people.
