Moodbidri, July 30: Catholic Sabha Shirthady, Stri Sangatane Shirthady Unit, ICYM of Shirthady, Sauharda Friends Shirthady and other like-minded organisations organised a protest against violent incidents of Manipur, parading of naked women and the biased administration of the union government.

The protest was held under the leadership of Fr Herald Mascarenhas near Shirthady bus stand here on Sunday, July 30. Several people took part in a silent march from Mount Carmel Church to the bus stand and the protesters demanded restoration of peace in Manipur.

“Manipur is part of India. Moreover, elected people’s representatives including the chief minister, his council of ministers and MLAs besides the Manipur police have taken oaths in the name of the constitution. But, they have failed to uphold the spirit of the constitution,” said Rajesh Kadlakere, political convener of Moodbidri regional Catholic Sabha.

He also narrated incidents of violence that took place in Manipur to the protesters.

Herald D'Silva, Wilfred Pinto and Praveen Kumar Jain, and several nuns took part in the protest.
