Mangaluru, Aug 8: Justice Manjula Itti of additional district and sessions court (FTSC-1) sentenced accused, who not only sexually harassed a minor girl but took 30 sovereign of golden ornaments, to three years in prison.

Roshan D’Souza alias Roshan Fernandes (31), a resident of Kajekar, Jappinamogaru, is the accused who was found guilty.

The minor girl, who was also a Christian by faith, was going to college after getting down from the bus on November 16, 2015. The accused followed her on bike and tried to speak to her. Later, he convinced her that he is also of the same religion and works for Infosys. After he got the confidence of the girl, he took her to hotels and malls of the city. He also asked the girl to keep their relationship a secret.

One day accused Roshan asked the girl that he needs urgent money and went to her house and convinced the family members and took 86 gram golden ornaments. Later, he said to the girl, that the time of the gold that is pledged in the bank is getting over and more gold is needed.

On March 12, 2016, accused went to grandmother’s house of the victim and took 34 grams of gold. He also took the girl to Kadri Park on March 30, 2016 and sexually harassed her. The girl reached her home late on that day. When her parents enquired, the victim girl narrated the whole story.

When the family members took details of the accused he was not a software engineer but worked as supplier in a catering company. A case was filed in Ullal police station.

Justice Itti sentenced accused to three years in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 5000. The judge also ordered the government to pay Rs 50000 as compensation to the victim girl.

Special public prosecutor Sahana Devi argued for the prosecution.
