Udupi: Current stage of Udupi college washroom video case probe uncertain - Minister Hebbalkar

Udupi, Aug 14: "I am presently unable to ascertain the current stage of the CID investigation into the Udupi video case," stated Minister Lakhmi Hebbalkar.

During a media briefing on Monday, August 14, Minister Hebbalkar addressed the ongoing investigation, saying, "The chief minister and the police department are maintaining vigilant oversight over the case. The decision to hand over the case to the CID was prompted by the demand for supplementary investigations. The CID team has already visited the college and held discussions with the victimized young woman. The investigative process is currently underway."

"Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, who lacks confidence in the CID's investigation, is my brother and a member of the opposition. His statements are driven by political considerations. Our government is committed to upholding the rights of women and ensuring justice for all individuals and communities. We are resolute in conducting an impartial inquiry," she added.

In response to questions about the operations targeting Manipal pubs by the Department of Excise, Minister Hebbalkar sought clarification on the alleged connection between these actions and the BJP. She stated, "It is unclear why the BJP is being singled out for scrutiny. The Congress did not engage in such targeting. Our actions adhere to legal frameworks. These establishments operate under licenses as clubs and pubs, and regulations, including business hours, are stipulated. Legitimate business activities are welcome within these legal bounds. The Congress does not harbor biases against any specific entity."

"Concerning allegations of commission, our government has not initiated any new projects in the past three months. The notion of commission arises in contexts involving project initiation, foundation laying, or tender invitations. Currently, there are no instances that warrant commission discussions. An independent investigation team has been formed to look into allegations related to the BBMP. This team will investigate claims of bogus transactions. Instances where bills have been submitted for ten kilometers of work, while only one kilometer was completed, are being scrutinized. False claims of work being sanctioned and completed within 24 hours are also being examined. Payments are only being made for valid work completed."

"I have heard statements from Kempanna during a press conference that commission-related activities are non-existent. The BJP has left behind a substantial debt burden. The state of the treasury is widely known. CM Siddaramaiah is recognized for his financial expertise. We are prepared to provide five guarantees without imposing undue burdens. However, clearing four years' worth of bills all at once poses a challenge."

Minister Hebbalkar also addressed the widely discussed Saujanya murder case in Dharmastala, stating, "This is my first time participating in the Independence Day flag hoisting. I will address the Saujanya murder case in more detail on Tuesday."
