Bengaluru, Aug 26: Rural Development and IT/BT Minister Priyank Kharge has ridiculed the State BJP leaders, including State BJP chief Nalin Kumar Kateel, for being barricaded during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bengaluru to meet and felicitate ISRO scientists on the successful Chandrayaan 3 mission.

Kharge, has tweeted that Modi has scant regard for the Karnataka BJP leaders, and has compelled them to wait behind barricades like ordinary citizens to greet his arrival.

The Prime Minister has not only scrapped the arrangements of the State BJP leaders to organise a roadshow to welcome him when he arrives early in the morning but has not allowed any local leaders to receive him at the Bengaluru International Airport when he arrived on Friday morning.

Kharge said: “It is demeaning to see Kateel and other BJP MLAs as well as former ministers waiting behind the barricades put up by the security as part of the drill for VVIP visits, who were forced to be craning their necks and waving to draw the Prime Minister’s attention.’’

“We are political opponents but I felt sorry for the plight of these BJP leaders, including Kateel, standing behind barricades and attract attention,’’ he said terming the State BJP leaders as ‘’barricade detainees.’’

The minister tweeted that the BJP high command has scant respect for the State BJP leaders and has not appointed an opposition leader in the State assembly even after 100 days since the assembly elections. The replacement for Kateel, whose term was over, has also been held up, he said.

These BJP leaders are insulting the people who voted for them. Do they have any self-respect if the party cannot choose opposition leader in the assembly even after 100 days since the assembly election, he asked.
