Bantwal, Sep 22: The Deva Matha Youth Movement (ICYM) organized 'Moriyal Geetha,' a singing competition, to honour the Nativity of Mother Mary on September 10. The event was held at Mother of God Church in Mogarnad, uniting the devout parishioners through music and harmony.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Fr Anil Canute D’Mello, parish priest, and director of DMYM, Praveen D'Cunha, president of St John Paul II deanery (ICYM), Sr Anne, head of Deva Matha Convent, Santhosh D'Souza, vice president of parish pastoral council, Wilfred Lobo, secretary of parish pastoral council, Emiliana D'Cunha, coordinator of all the commissions of the church, Prashanth Lewis, animator of DMYM, Avit Premson Lobo, president of DMYM, and Melvita Christal Pereira, secretary of DMYM.

The event commenced with a heartfelt hymn, setting the tone for the festivities. Avit Premson Lobo, the president of DMYM, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. The dignitaries inaugurated the event by offering symbolic flowers to the Infant Mary statue.

Fr Anil Canute D’Mello enlightened the gathering about the various names and significance of Virgin Mary. He emphasized the divine feeling associated with organizing 'Moriyal Geetha' and the abundant blessings that Mother Mary bestows upon all. Fr Anil D’Mello stressed that these events should have a meaningful impact on lives, allowing the community to experience the divinity of Mother Mary.

Following the formal ceremony, Reshma D'Cunha elegantly compered the event, infusing it with lively engagement. The DMYM members introduced the event's judges, Alwyn Noronha and Meera Crasta. A total of 18 wards from the church participated in this melodious competition.

The much-awaited results were announced, and the winners were celebrated:

First place: Amtoor ward

Second place: Bolangady 2nd ward

Third place: Karingan ward
