Mangaluru: CCB arrests two for alleged involvement in cricket betting

Mangalore, Oct 15: The Mangalore City Police's Surathkal and Kavoor police stations have apprehended two individuals who were allegedly involved in unlawful cricket betting, particularly related to matches of the ICC World Cup.

The accused have been identified as Deepak (33), residing near the government school, Haleangadi, Chelyaru post, Mangaluru suburbs and Sandeep Shetty (38), residing in Panjagutthu Mane, Marakada, Kavoor, Mangaluru.

The CCB police, after receiving definite information that they are engaged in illegal betting business by collecting money from the public and gambling on the winning or losing of the World Cup cricket matches by using a betting app on mobile phones in Chelyaru area under Surathkal police station and Falnir under Kavoor police station area, conducted two raids.

A total of INR 31,000 in cash and four mobile phones have been seized from the suspects' possession. The estimated value of the seized assets may amount to INR 1,11,000. This incident is part of ongoing investigations, and further details remain confidential. The police are continuing to investigate this case, and more individuals may be involved in the alleged cricket betting operation. The investigation is being led by the respective police authorities of the Surathkal and Kaup police stations, under the guidance of city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal.
