Mangalore, Sep 19:
There is a need to complete all the pending development works in the city on time so that new proposals may be submitted to the state government. To achieve this, builders, contractors, engineers’ association and designers need to cooperate with the government in its mission to give a facelift to about 45 km of road in MCC limit and match it to international standards, said district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar.

He was speaking at the meeting of MCC officials, builders and engineers’ association to discuss the overall development of the city, at Netravathi Hall of zilla panchayat here on Monday September 19.

The meeting was organised with two aims in view, one, to spread the message 'give back to society what you have got from it' and to foster development on the basis of cooperation and coordination. Positive response echoed in the meeting.

Around 15 representatives took part in this meeting. They appealed for a week's time to come to a decision. All of them sought cooperation from the minister to work on three phases. The method is known as ‘own your road, own your park,' wherein an engineer will scrutinise every 1 km of road.

Sanath of SKS Builders agreed to develop the road from KPT to Padau to international status. As per the guidance of the minister, K C Naik, president of CREDAI said that he would cooperate to improve the roads in city in a manner that would reflect its development. Engineers association members assured of providing technical assistance.

Siraj of Inland Builders said that there is need for more cooperation from the city corporation. Vijay Mayya, president of Consultant Civil Engineers’ Association, Rohan Monteiro of Property Infra Pvt Limited were also present. They said that they have good engineers and architects with them and will extend their support to the PPP method.

The minister also asked them to prioritise road development in city and instructed them to make available online information about road development. He sought the co-operation of media in reporting on developmental works.

There was also discussion on issues like solid waste management, advertisement hoardings and others.

Rs 10,000 Reward: Those who pass information about violators who throw litter in public places will be rewarded with Rs 10,000. Those who inform about filling ponds with soil will be given a reward ranging from Rs 1000 to 10,000 by the environment department. Orders on these will be passed soon, the minister said. Good and productive suggestions were the highlights of the meeting.

State assembly deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat informed that Rs 200 crore has been set aside for the development of the city, adding that steps will taken to ensure that all development works are completed on schedule, without compromising on quality.

Mayor Praveen, DC Dr N S Channappa Gowda, ZP CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash were present. Next Monday there will be another round of meeting at the DC’s office at 10 am.

Please ensure that there is no further felling of trees and coconut palms in the name of development. Let the authorities also ensure that common people's necessities like bus shelters and public toilets are also included in the so-called developmental projects, involving crores of public money.

Well When It comes to Development of native place everybody's heart beat increases. Its too late but still a long cherished dream to be fulfilled by joining hands with builders, architects, engineers by Palemarji. The topic is Developing Mlore to Intl Status. First of all One or two guys like Reddy's (Palemarji's former colleagues at cabinet) are more than enough to do so then why he want others to join hands....?
Eradicate corruption at all of Govt. MCC, AP,GP level then the Living standard will Improve dramatically everywhere. Roads, Infrastructure, Power, Water, Intl Airport etc., are lack of quality for our belowed native place called Mangalore.

Is it true that the Mcc doesnt get enough funds for the development of roads n footpaths. On what basis do they plan the whole project? Is it only after the construction of the roads MCC wakes up to find that the pipelines have not been laid or drainage have to be provided.

One more thing...No of accidents along the Bondel road have increased after the installation of the barricades near the school zone. What do you think is more important? Planting saplings on the dividers(which eventually die after a few months) or streetlights and Traffic signs???

Leave alone international standards, let us first of all have some decent roads with safe foot paths. For one full year we have only promises from concerned authorities for repair of Kalpana road and it has taken full three months to finish interlocking of 100 mtr stretch of Vas Lane. One has to recite prayers for safety while walking from Kodialbail to Hampankatta. And yet we speak of international standards!

Very good move by the leaders and Techi's. Good luck hope the current spiirit last long. Regarding delayed work of Bejai Market mentioned by my brother Eric, current make shift fish market is under the nose of EX MLA Nagraj Shetty. I wonder wheather he noticed it ( as a ruling party leader?)for last few years or not!!!! Probebly he likes current temporary market because it is too close to his door.

I am happy to see this effort in putting together a forum for the development of the city.

Will Mangalore not be a much better place to live in even if SOME of these people fulfil their committments? The initiative and plans need to be backed up by action and only time will be able to testify that.

Let us hope and keep fingers crossed instead of pointing accusingly on non-action ab initio.

It is a bandal kind of talk. People have faith in the engineers, architects and developers of Mangalore. But very low faith on politicians, MUDA & MCC.
Let the MCC provide good footpath, drainage and if possible liberate the roads from encroachers. Then people may listen to them. Otherwise the fate is no different than Eric Coelho commented!

Something very interesting came to my mind about a builder who advertised in a kannada news paper - "Special discount for flats on builders 60th Birthday". I am sure he must have or will advertise for 25th and 50th Wedding anniversary of special discount for flats or even for birthday offers. Such is the standards the builders maintain not only in Mangalore but also in India. Time we come up with roads, housing that gives enough space for pedestrians, garden (so that Sr. Citizens can enjoy their evenings), more and more greenery in and around Mangalore city. We should never have roads like K.S.Rao, Hampankatta, Falnir, Kankanady, Bendorewell etc. Also take that Bejai Market how many years is over since demolished and there is no sign of new coming up and the market is placed at the entrance of the church. Shame on the MCC, Engineers and Builders of Bad and Irresponsible planning.

Good that during the tenure of some good soul like Shri Ponnuraj the DC, Mangalore got the facelift in terms of concrete roads. But immediately on his transfer, the half done roads have not yet been completed. In some concrete roads, big patches in the middle of the roads are left without being concreted and may be they are waiting for some accidents to take place to complete the concretisation. Drainages and footpaths alongside the concrete roads should have been done simultaneously which has not happened. May be as Mr Eric Coelhi said, another meeting has to take place to discuss about this, let alone complete this. Though I wish speedy implementation of the projects takes place as discussed, hope it will not remain only a dream on the paper. Good Luck all.

Government's present rules preclude a layman building his own house in a small plot using his hardearned meagre money. Govt. bring forwards 100 types of rules, and deny permission. These all things are thanks to the Builders' lobby.

If we go by the words it is a good thing ..but seeing the past performance and promises made ..this too sounds like farce.
Calling meetings of this sorts is a waste of time ..for any project to be successful, the scope, timeline, stake holders, ution, control and closure should be clearly defined.. I very much doubt that this has happened in this case.

Well said Mr. Eric Coelho, Mangalore, definitely outcome of the meeting forgotten soon after the meeting. Before our beloved Minister plans any future projects of International standard, let him concentrate to upgrade all ongoing/recently completed substandard infrastructure projects. Minister should look very closely on planning & work quality of all flyovers and work with responsible departments to sort it out. Improve the quality of infrastructure first before dreaming of building city of International standard

It is going to be a one day meeting with Coffee, Tea and Snacks. The outcome of this meeting will be forgotten the next day. Mark my Words. A Stretch of 1 km to be done in Mangalore will take 1 year, so for 45 km it might even take 45 years. To have infrastructure of international standards in a city of Mangalore that never expected such growth has put the city into total doldrums. Just constructing roads without footpaths, parking slots etc makes no sense.

There is no sign boards on the roads where you have to take U turn etc etc. It is the greed for money flouting all rules we indians are famous for that can bring in more comforts to the man is the ultimate goal. I can give several examples that our infrastructure is so bad that we will require another 100 years to achieve if we really start with a sincere mind from today. Whoever have attended the meeting from the pictures are not serious builders who can achieve international standards but are there to fill their pockets. While constructing a building the builders do not follow basic rules and standards that would save them some money. Ultimately it is a One day meeting with tea and coffee to be forgotten next day back in their respective office.

Why are these people looting the natural beauty of our place. Little greenery is left now and that also will be destroyed by these people. Mangalore has lost its charm, beauty. It was so plesant to see green hills, paddy fields etc. Now it can be only seen in pics. Everywhere excavation or new constructions are coming up. God save our place from these greedy, selfish people. We dont want to see or live in a concrete jungle! but our own beautiful green mangalore

Development of the City is a key word that will spell out thousand more words in order to benefit the people of Mangalore in so many ways. Having just returned from a short trip to Mangalore, we have witnessed the development of each corner of Mangalore with a keen eye. There is lot of brain-work and team-work being exerted for the development of city, and whoever is instrumental in coordinating the city planning and development need be complemented.

Joining hands to develop the city in comformity with the International Standars is another issue that is crucially important and valuable. So many townships and cities in North America as well as in countries such as China, and even in the Middle East are planned with precision and determination thru teamwork and established City Ordinance and Standards. Development of Buildings thru sophisticated architecture and planning should go hand in hand with the planned sewage, drainage, telephone lines, power lines, even gas lines and much more. Disposal of garbage and ultimate transportation to desired destinations also need constant planning and supervision. Grand buildings, large buildings and sophisticated dwellings should be tastefully planned in line with the rest of the infrastructure so that Mangalore will be an ideal spot for Tourism, Trade, Commerce, Education and much more.

You have our support, and you have our best wishes. Thank you, Mangalore for your positive approach to life.

It is good hear that Builders, Engineers Join Hands to Develop City on International Standards which in turn pave the way for economic growth of the city.It is also very much necessary to extend full co-operation by MCC and concerned ministry/department/authorities in fulfilling their task on time.without that talk will be only on paper.Active participation and involvement from all the concerned quarters is the need of the hour for over all growth of the city.Hope this dream will be carried out very effectively so that we can see new look/beauty in Mangalore very soon.Kudos to all the Builders,Engineers,Architects,Consultants,MCC and all the concerned authorities/departments/ministries.May God bless all of you.
