Mangalore, Sep 26: As an initiative towards the development of roads in city limits with the help of builders, the second round of meeting chaired by district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, MLA Yogish Bhat and Mayor Praveen was held at Monday September 26.

After intense discussions, it was decided that the KPT to Maravoor stretch (Visweswarayya Road) will be made ‘ideal’ and the work for the same will commence from October 6. To complete all the other road works a deadline of 6 months was set.

Palemar clarified that the road work is done by MCC, however due to scant number of engineers and labourers, builders' co-operation has been sought. There is no point in insulting MCC engineers, he said.

Only the main roads were developed with the Rs 100-crore grant released by the chief minister for road work, while the work related to footpath, drainage, and placing of electricity poles were pending.

Palemar said that if the released fund is not utilised by the MCC on time, there be chances of sanctioned money elapsing, hence, this method, as alleged by former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, is not intended to benefit builders but aims at the overall development of the city. For some road works tender procedures were over, while due to lack of labour force in MCC, work could not be initiated. With builders providing their labourers now the work will get a facelift, he added.

After the work of KPT to Maravoor stretch, other 23 roads in the city of about 35-km stretch will be improved, for which materials will be supplied by government agency ‘Nirmithi Kendra'. The cost of the road work will be borne by the government and builders have the responsibility of providing the labour force. During the meeting it was decided to provide about 80 engineers for this work.

When Lancy Mascarenhas of Lancy Constructions agreed to take up the work of 1.5 km of Hoigebail road at his own cost, which received approval from the minister for his concern towards society, another builder of Brigade Constructions declined to extend his cooperation on the grounds that he was not given license by the MCC.

This irked both the minister and the MLA, who said that this was a good initiative and needs cooperation from all. Brigade Constructions being a national-level construction company should not back out from this cause, they said. Later, there was a compromise formula on the issue with K C Naik of Credai suggesting that all builders will take up 23 different roads for development.

KMC administration agreed to bear the overall cost of the the development of the KMC 6th and 7th cross road in Attavar, informed corporator Ranganath Kini at the meeting.

Mr Ajit: "You say: How can there be a shortage of engineers in 2nd most polulated country in the world???
This is a bluff!!!"... It is not a dearth of engineers - it is a shortage of good and employable engineers!!! Many engineers from India do not even have basic engg. skills! No labs, no real practical experience, just read some books and blurt out in exams... Where are the skills for doing anything good? Other than IT which is not Engg. no area in India has really prospered...

Its really surprising to here that shortage of Engineers a false excuse. Why our Minister and deputy speaker comment that they want to favour these builders of Mangalore. Mafia by real estate developer and sand dealer Krishna Palemar! See the pathatic condition of the newly build roads after concreeting they never took pavent works left incomplete in many areas without protection many two wheeler riders lost their life. I seen horrible ditches near city hospital and even they broke newly laid concrete road to repair water pipe leakge before completing the stretch. ( In the month of June & July ) Even after one year of completion of concrete roads pavements are not done pedastrains life on danger. These factors are not coming into the mind of our Engineers/ administrators and so called our rulers ( Ministers/ MLA's ). Simple eye wash to fool the citizens. The fly over bridge in bikarnakatte Kaikmba is under construction for last three years if government does not have funds why u initiate such projects. This speaks about good planning of government authorities.

I am not concerned what the Builders are upto as it is very difficult to judge a human evil mind. However I would like to inform the MLA's or MP's that using the formula of Scarcity of Labour we are giving the project to builders. A country of 1.2 billion people we are saying there is shortage of labour. Shame on our thinking. There is a hidden agenda behind this project. The hidden agenda is that the builders are facing financial crunch and to meet their cash flow they are upto a dirty trick which is very diffcult for me to conclude. I am against giving the project to pvt. builders as they will make this city into a huge concrete jungle destroying all greenery to meet their high end needs. Mark my words wait for the worst and worst.

Let the MCC Engineers superwise whatever they can, as per their existing strength. Only the rest need to be supervised by Engineers' association. Otherwise, Existing MCC engineers will be jobless! or they will opt only for the job of Billing and Payment, which they are eagerly waiting for !

The meeting looks like the MCC is auctioning public grounds in Mangalore vicinity and all the major builders are ready for bid.Palemar wants the ground floor, the speaker wants the first floor rest of the floors for other bidders. If the MCC want to make roads they can put advetisement in news papers and invite tenders from these builders at the same terms as they mentioned here. These meetings are callded to cover up secret issues of these builders cum polititions.

    hi...
all 23 roads is definitely roads where the builders have their properties .so they would want the road widened to get maximum floor area ratio.brigade group apparently told it point blank that give us license then we will do the work.enough of engineers and labourers are there its simplly to much money goes in paying bribes.

I am, kind of surprised to see all the prominent city builders gathered in this meeting and discussing the road projects within the Mangalore city limits. No one is doing any social work here…each one of them is thinking as to how to fill their pockets with sub standard road work. MCC is a biggest of the fish, which eats 60% of the money sanctioned for the development of the Roads by the Government each year. The Mangalore city roads are in pathetic conditions, and no one would like to drive his/her vehicles on this road willingly. But citizens of our districts have got no guts to question MCC’s substandard work and question their Corporators. Contractors are busy making money by these substandard roads which don’t even last for one season and these Contractors get the work done sanctioned by the MCC Engineer by paying bribes to them, thus filling their pockets along with MCC engineers and Corporators. Mr. Palemar is not an exception.

Today no one wants to work for the betterment of society and do well to the society. Each one thinks of his/her own and has become selfish. The whole world has become selfish due to the race to earn quick money and Money has become the main motive of our lives.
