Daijiworld Impact: Kerala Human Rights Commission Slaps Notices on Railway Officials

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (PS)

Mangalore, Sep 28:
Taking suo motu cognizance of the plight of the commuters on Chervattoor-Mangalore passenger train highlighted by Daijiworld on September 26, the Kerala state human rights commission, just two days after its publication, has served notices to three railway officials.

Notices have been slapped on Southern Railway Chennai general manager, Railway superintendent of police and Palghat divisional manager seeking a report immediately, it is learnt.

J B Koshy, chairman of Kerala state human rights commission condemned the apathy of the district administration and people's representatives in the region for this gross negligence which has forced hundreds of students to risk their lives every day.

Speaking to Daijiworld, J B Koshy said that appropriate action will be initiated once the report is submitted. The concerned have been directed to file the report within a month, he added.

Confirming the news, Sebastian, public relations officer of Palghat division said that they have received the notice issued by the KSHRC. The notice will be passed on to the Divisional Railway Manager of Palghat who will take necessary action, he added.

The special report published in Daijiworld on September 26 elaborately highlighted the perils of the Chervattoor-Mangalore train journey undertaken by scores of students commutting to Mangalore on a daily basis. In the absence of alternate means of conveyance, except for a handful of buses, the train is jam-packed and  students are forced to hang on to doorsteps all through the journey. The article, which received tremendous response from readers, also dealt with the reason for the mess, and possible action that could be taken to set right the problem.

Why the Govt and the officials always act only after a public outcry or after court intrusion. In the first place, why the departments allow the public to flaunt the laws? Always a Stitch in Time Saves Nine.

Kasargod should be made part of Karanataka since 80% of the population are Kannadigas/Tuluvas.

Then only Kasargod can have good educational institutions including degree/engg/medical colleges. This communist Kerala govt can not do anything except 2 strikes in a Month. Because of this keralites, our people have to face problems including education, employment and overall development of the society.

Need of a concept change to meet the pressure of multiplying demand. We have been using the tortoise style since the invention of wheels and vehicle engine and the land transportation is in a very long evolution mode since ages. Now it is very essential to introduce a combination of tortoise and rabbit style, horse and kangaroo style in our land transport system. If we are ready to accept a revolutionary change in our land transport system similar to the telecom, we can really be the winners with amazing benefits and excellent solutions to our transport problem.
It is a sorrowful situation which ignores the precious lives of our younger generation. Unless we think of a concept change in our vehicles on road it is not possible to improve the safety situation and provide adequate transport facilities for rapidly increasing demand.
If the serious viewers and commentators join to support the implementation of a unique idea, the solution can be a reality with tremendous success.

The job is half done now.The officials often forget these matters,so there should be more reports if action not taken on time. There should be awareness by the schools and colleges. The schools can educate these students to organize peaceful protest on sunday or a holiday so the railways can be forced to run more trains on the school timings. We pay tax and we always forget that the government has to function with providing utilities. For example we pay taxes to the MCC and these taxes are paid for the uplifting of roads, maintaining street lights , provide water and education for the people. We hardly find any MCC schools in our city.Crores of money is reserved for Railways every year, but there is no such schemes on transport for students who are the future of this country.

Thickness of train traffic in Mangalore-Kozhikode section is a known fact, but the Authorities [both Railways and Members of Rly.consultative committe with representatives from Mangalore also]are quite blind. Railways have not considered the need of running Pull-Push trains with more frequencies. They gave attention to continuously extending more and more express trains in the Section which are of no use for the shortroute passengers. Now there is advantage of double track in Malabar region.

The authorities should also take action against over crowded buses too.The Govt. bus service seems to the best solution but until the authorities are paid handsome amount by the bus lobby this is not possible. Who cares if some dies? thats the attitude of the authorities.
