Mangalore: Young Minds to Discuss, Debate, Decide Strategies for City

Mangalore, Sep 29: Mangalore Youth Leaders Conclave (MYLC) is a first-of-its-kind conference that provides the youth an opportunity to take up various projects towards a greener and peaceful Mangalore. The conference is scheduled to take place on Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2 at Eric Mathais Hall, St Aloysius College here.

The event will be presided by and the declarations will be handed over to deputy commissioner Channappa Gowda.

"MYLC is designed to be a medium for action, a dynamic programme that coalesces inspiring speakers, spiritual workshops, development plans, inter-cultural music and action projects and declaration. The participatory approach of this conference is the first of its kind which brings face to face the Dakshina Kannada district administration and the youth of Mangalore to discuss, debate and decide on strategies that aim at a peaceful and greener Mangalore. Our aim is to make action-oriented leaders," says Laxmi Shenoy, convener, MYLC 2011.

"MYLC is a platform that aims to bring together the youth leaders of Mangalore to 'Think...Talk... and ACT..' which is the motto of the conference. The key themes include: Peace within, Peace with the Environment and Peace with the World for a better Mangalore and in turn a better world,” says Jenice Goveas, president, MYLC 2011.


Speakers and Topic:

The conference will begin with 'Peace within' by Vijay Gopal, Yoga Guru. Varadesh Hiregange, director MIC, Manipal will speak on the topic 'Relevance of Gandhian Ideals in the present times'; Dr Pattabhirama Somayaji, professor, University College will speak on 'What is non-violence? Non violence is what non-violence does'; and Dr Ramakrishna Sharma will speak on the topic 'Living close to mother nature for perpetual peace'.

Discussions on practical projects that youth can take up will be initiated by Nandagopal, founder, Centre for Integrated Learning. Panel discussion is also scheduled, for which the panelists are Dr Deviprabha, Dr Sophie and Dr Santosh Kamath.

Workshops also will be conducted by Samvartha B A, scholar JNU on the topic 'Language and Peace', Cartoonist Nikhil Pai will conduct workshop on the topic 'Peaceful co-existence' and also visit to the vermitechnology bin has been scheduled for the two days.


The two-day conference has no registration fee and is free of cost.

    very happy to see such initiatives undertaken by mangalorean youth...Its the need of the hour to save mangalore from loosing its foothold as green city as the world is moving towards development...or else very soon mangalore will be a place covered with pollution,traffic same as what has happened with bangalore..In bangalore evrything is developed but traffic problem,number of people coming to bangalore in search of job has nothing but added to the problems...very good work by mangalorean ppl who understood the need of the hour....proud to be mangalorean
