Tata Motors Tweaks Nano, Claims Improved Mileage

Mumbai, Nov 21 (IANS): Tata Motors Monday unveiled several new features for the Nano car, including improved fuel efficiency, at no extra cost.

The company claimed mileage has been improved to 25.4 km per litre, up from existing 23.6 km per litre, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India.

This comes with a low kerb weight of 600 kg, ensuring the lowest CO2 emission among Indian cars.

"Tata Nano owners, over 90 percent of whom are highly satisfied with their choice, have given us valuable insights on what more can be done. We have introduced some of these ideas," said Tata Motors India chairman P.M. Telang.

The car's 624cc engine has also been made more powerful delivering 38 PS power, against 35 PS earlier, the official added.

Other features include a revised suspension set-up, including an anti-roll bar at the front and a new steering mechanism.

Booster-assisted brakes and tip-tap mirrors, presently available in Nano CX and Nano LX models, have now been added to the Nano Standard, and a tip-tap mirror can be added as an accessory on the passenger side in the latter (Nano Standard).

Tata Nano shall continue to be available at existing prices. Ex-showroom (Delhi), Nano Standard costs Rs.1.40 lakh, Nano CX Rs.1.70 lakh and Nano LX comes at Rs.1.96 lakh.

Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company with consolidated revenues of $27 billion in 2010-11.
