Mangaluru, Dec 7: The NSS Annual Special Camp 2024-25, organized by St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) at Government Higher Primary School, Eliyala, Kowdoor, was inaugurated with a vibrant ceremony on November 27 at Kowdoor Arts Centre, Glarida Estate, Kowdoor. The program featured inspiring addresses by distinguished guests, including Fr Melwin Pinto S J, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Dr Denis Fernandes, director, Arrupe Block, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, Dr Alwyn D'Sa, registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru and Vijayalakshmi, headmistress of the host school. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp marked the beginning of a week-long journey of service, with 98 enthusiastic volunteers and 6 NSS programme officers.
Daily flag hoisting ceremonies, cultural events showcasing traditional folk art, and enriching guest interactions became highlights of the camp. Volunteers, under the leadership of NSS officers, undertook impactful initiatives such as spoken English classes at the host school, wall paintings with social science subject themes, plantation drives distributing 106 saplings to the localities, road cleaning, and school ground cleaning and beautification. Additionally, a fire safety awareness session by professional officer Sathya Raj and a program celebrating the Indian Constitution’s 75th anniversary enriched the community's knowledge and engagement.
The valedictory programme of the NSS Annual Special Camp 2024-25 was held on December 3 at Kowdoor Arts Centre, Glarida Estate, Kowdoor. The chief guest, P Kishan Hegde, a renowned Yakshagana artiste and convener of five Yakshagana Melas, delivered an inspiring valedictory address. Dr Praveen Martis, S J, vice-chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed to be University, presided over the event. Other dignitaries included Dr Alwyn D'Sa, registrar of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Balakrishna Madivala, SDMC president, Government Higher Primary School, Eliyala, Kowdoor, Sujatha, president of gram panchayat, Bailoor, and Shree Vidya, PDO, gram panchayat, Bailoor. A detailed report of the seven-day camp was presented, highlighting the impactful activities undertaken. Awards for Best Camper, Best Cultural Performer, Best MC, and Best Team were distributed to recognize exceptional contributions of the NSS volunteers during the camp. The event concluded with gratitude and pride, marking the successful culmination of the camp.
This transformative camp exemplified the NSS spirit of community service and environmental sustainability, leaving a lasting impact on both the participants and the local community.
