Mumbai, Feb 20: Vicky Kaushal’s latest historical drama, Chhaava, has been granted tax-free status in Madhya Pradesh, including its capital Bhopal, and Goa, marking a significant boost for the film. The announcement was made on February 19, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Chhaava has been receiving widespread acclaim for its gripping narrative and Kaushal’s powerful performance. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the tax exemption during a public event, stating on social media, "On the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's birth anniversary, I announce tax-free release of the Hindi film Chhaava, based on his son Sambhaji Maharaj."

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also declared the film tax-free, emphasizing its historical significance. In a post on X, he wrote, “Victory to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj! It gives me great pleasure to announce that Chhaava, based on the life and sacrifice of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, will be tax-free in Goa. This film brings his valor and courage to the big screen, reminding us of his unwavering fight against the Mughals and the Portuguese.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged the growing demand to make Chhaava tax-free in the state. He noted that Maharashtra had already removed entertainment tax in 2017 and assured that the government would explore ways to further promote the film and ensure wider accessibility.

Following the tax-free announcements in Madhya Pradesh and Goa, several other states are expected to follow suit, recognizing the film’s cultural and historical importance.
