Bengaluru, May 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for six districts in Karnataka on Saturday May 24 due to the possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds across the coastal and Malnad regions. The districts under red alert include Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru.
Orange alerts have been issued for Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Hassan, Mandya, and Mysuru districts, while yellow alerts are in place for the remaining districts, including Bengaluru.

Heavy rainfall has been lashing Mangaluru, continuing non-stop since last night. Rain has persisted across Mangaluru city and the district, including Beltangady, Puttur, Bantwal, and Sullia taluks. The IMD has predicted that the region will continue to receive heavy rainfall over the next four days.
According to the forecast, Karnataka is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next 4–5 days. In Bengaluru, cloudy conditions have been reported today with chances of rain. However, the city has seen a break from rainfall, with no significant rain recorded over the past three days. Rainfall in Bengaluru is likely to remain light and scattered, while heavy rainfall is expected across the coastal, Malnad, and northern parts of the state.
Orange alerts for certain districts are valid until May 26. Coastal Karnataka is expected to receive the heaviest rainfall in the state. The IMD has also predicted heavy rains across Kerala and Karnataka until May 29.
Coastal areas have been placed under a heavy rain alert. Due to increasing wind speeds and rough sea conditions in the Arabian Sea, high wave activity has been observed. The Uttara Kannada district administration has advised fishermen who ventured into the sea to return and has temporarily banned fishing activities.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature across Karnataka may drop by 2–3°C over the next five days. Thunderstorms with rainfall are expected in isolated parts of coastal Karnataka, north interior Karnataka, and south interior Karnataka until May 29.
