Patna, May 25: In a dramatic turn of events within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), party founder and veteran leader Lalu Prasad Yadav has expelled his elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party for six years. The decision comes amid uproar over a now-deleted social media post where Tej Pratap claimed to be in a long-term relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav, sparking questions about his personal life and commitment to party values.
Lalu Prasad Yadav slammed his son’s conduct, saying, “Ignoring moral values in personal life weakens our community’s struggle for social justice.” The senior leader added that Tej Pratap’s public behaviour and actions were not in line with the family’s ethos. “From today onwards, he will no longer have any role in the party or family,” Lalu declared.

The controversy began when a photograph surfaced on Tej Pratap’s Facebook profile, showing him with a woman identified as Anushka Yadav. The post stated they had been in a relationship for 12 years, a revelation that raised eyebrows given Tej Pratap’s marriage to Aishwarya Rai, daughter of former Bihar Minister Chandrika Rai, in 2018. The couple had reportedly separated months after their wedding.
Following widespread criticism and speculation, Tej Pratap deleted the post and claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that his account was hacked and the photos had been doctored. “My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully,” he wrote.
Despite the personal nature of the matter, Lalu Prasad Yadav made it clear that the party expects its leaders to uphold decorum and moral standards. He further stated that Tej Pratap could make his own personal choices but warned that such actions cannot be tolerated publicly, especially from someone in the public eye and from a family deeply rooted in social justice activism.
The RJD patriarch’s decision has sent ripples through Bihar’s political circles, highlighting tensions within the party and the challenges of balancing personal freedom with political responsibility.
