Mumbai, May 29: Well-known police officer Daya Nayak, originally from Ennehole in Karkala, has been promoted to the post of assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in the Mumbai police.
Until recently, Nayak held the post of senior inspector in the Mumbai crime branch, where he earned recognition for his work in tackling organised crime in the city.
Nayak began his career in the police service in 1995 and quickly rose to prominence for his role in combating the Mumbai underworld. By 2004, he was credited with carrying out over 85 encounters against hardened criminals, earning him the tag of an ‘encounter specialist’.

He has also served in the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and played a pivotal role in cracking down on the drug mafia that had taken root across Mumbai in recent years. Nayak led multiple successful operations that dismantled drug syndicates operating in the city and surrounding areas.
His elevation to the ACP rank is being seen as recognition of his decades of committed service and his effectiveness in dealing with high-profile criminal elements and narcotics-related offences.
