Mangaluru, May 30: In a significant development, Karnataka Lokayukta officials here have registered a bribery case against Gajendra V Edake, assistant controller of the legal metrology department, Mangaluru.
According to a press release from the Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada district, the incident took place on May 30, at around 11:15 am. Praveen Naik, proprietor of Prashanth Oil Industries, Kotekani, Mangaluru, along with Gajendra, visited the Mangaluru Lokayukta police station and informed the staff that they wished to convey certain information to the complainant, a police inspector with the Karnataka Lokayukta.

During the interaction, Gajendra allegedly requested the police inspector not to register or conduct any investigation or raid against him or his department through the Lokayukta. He went on to offer a bribe of Rs 25,000 every three months to the Lokayukta police station in return for this favour. The offer of the bribe has been treated as an illegal inducement, and a case has been registered against Gajendra at the Mangaluru Lokayukta police station.
Following the incident, Gajendra V Edake was taken into custody on May 30, for attempting to bribe a public servant. An investigation is currently underway.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Kumarachandra, superintendent of police (in-charge), Karnataka Lokayukta, Mangaluru division. Legal action was initiated by Dr Gana P Kumar and Suresh Kumar P (deputy superintendents of police), along with police inspectors Bharathi G and Chandrashekar K N, and their team from the Mangaluru Lokayukta police station.
