BJP’s communal politics hurting not just coast but entire state: DyCM D K Shivakumar

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 31: Deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar has strongly criticized the BJP and several organisations for allegedly inciting communal tensions in the coastal region of Karnataka. He said such actions are not only causing unrest in the coastal belt but are damaging the entire state.

Responding to media queries near Vidhana Soudha and the Palace Grounds, Shivakumar referred to the recent communal murder and violence in Dakshina Kannada district. “We have instructed our party team to visit the affected areas and submit a detailed report. While officials will give their version, we have asked our team to prepare a report after engaging with the public,” he said.

When asked about the ineffectiveness of official transfers in controlling the situation, the Deputy CM said, “The situation is under control. Peace must prevail in the coastal region. The BJP and various other organisations are inciting communal tensions not just in the coast, but across Karnataka.”

He added that the issue is not limited to one or two deaths. “It is a massive setback for the entire coastal belt. People are living in fear, youth from the region are forced to migrate abroad for employment, and investors are hesitant to invest here. Everyone must recognize this ground reality,” he said.

Shivakumar made a strong appeal to BJP supporters and other organisations, urging them to understand the consequences of their actions and to work towards peace and stability in the state.

A suggestion to control communal issues. People are free to engage in communal politics because they are not pressurized mentally for survival. Ration, electricity, bus, grihalakshmi, free education, stipend through yuvanidhi has made people secure. Daily wagers, beedi workers get insurance, pension. So people are free. For entertainment or occupation they linger around political leaders and dance as per their directions. Remove all free stuff, automatic people will be working, earning thrir daily bread. So tired at the end of day, no one for processions. So please, remove freebies in dakshina Kannada.

I agree. As I am from the coastal belt, I can say with a heavy heart that the current situation is deeply unsettling. Today, no one is truly safe. When someone steps out of their home, there's no guarantee they'll return. It's terrifying. Religion, which once guided humanity, has now been overtaken by human agendas. It's being used not to unite, but to divide. As a result, trust is eroding, and fear is growing. Investors are understandably hesitant to come here. Who would invest in a place where unrest can erupt at any time? We boast of being 100% literate, but in moments like these, even the illiterate seem wiser—because wisdom isn't just about reading books; it's about understanding humanity, empathy, and peace
