Kaup: 65-yr-old covid positive patient succumbs in hospital

Kaup, June 2: A 65-year-old COVID-19 positive resident of Belle village in Kaup taluk passed away on Sunday, June 2, at a private hospital in Manipal.

The deceased, who had been suffering from abdominal cancer, was admitted to the hospital on May 29 for treatment related to hypertension. A COVID-19 test conducted upon admission returned positive, and he succumbed to the illness on the afternoon of June 2.

Following the confirmation of the case, Kaup tahsildar Pratibha R visited the deceased's residence to inquire about the health condition of family members and to offer condolences. Health officials have confirmed that none of the family members are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms.

The body remains at the hospital, and the final rites are scheduled to be held on Wednesday, June 4, in accordance with COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Accompanying the tahsildar were a medical team and local officials, who visited the village to raise awareness about COVID-19 safety measures. They stressed the importance of adhering to SOPs to prevent further spread of the virus.

Those present during the visit included taluk health officer Dr Vasudev, Shirva medical officer Dr Subrahmanya, Dr Vaishnavi, ASHA worker Yashoda, revenue inspector Izzar Sabir, and village administrative officer Pradeep.

The deceased was admitted to hospital with hypertension and blood pressure related issues. When in admission he was tested positive. As the admission was for hypertension the death will not be counted as Covid death,  clarified Udupi district commissioner Dr Vidyakumari.

    the accepted convention is to consider death of any person who was covid positive at the time of death as covid related death ... irrespective of other factors ...

    Patient was admitted for blood pressure related issues and he was patient of abdominal cancer too. Wonder why he was tested with a test kit which never detects any viruses but only debris. Good to know he wasn't counted as Covid casualty.
