Mysuru, June 4: With the annual feast of St Anthony fast approaching, the nine-day novena in honour of the revered saint commenced on June 4 at the world-famous St Anthony’s Basilica in Dornahalli, near Mysuru.
The solemn inauguration was marked by the traditional hoisting of the festal flag by Dr Bernard Moras, apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Mysore.
The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of Fr David Sagayaraj (rector, St Anthony’s Basilica), Fr Praveen Pedru (administrator), Fr Joseph Pakiraj (chancellor), and Fr Sebastian Alexander (procurator).

The first day of the novena featured Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Bernard Moras, followed by a procession of the holy relic and the Benediction of the Holy Eucharist. A large number of devotees from across the state participated with deep faith and spiritual fervour.
Delivering a brief spiritual message after Mass, Bishop Moras emphasised the power of hope and trust in God. “Life without hope is empty,” he said. “We must trust in God, who never disappoints and always desires good for us,” he said.
As part of the ceremony, Antony from Railway Colony, Bengaluru, who generously donated the festal flag, was felicitated. Nathan, also from Bengaluru, was honoured for sponsoring food for the gathered devotees.
The novena will continue daily until June 12, featuring special prayers and Masses. The celebrations will culminate with the Annual Feast of St Anthony on Friday, June 13. The festival High Mass in Kannada will be celebrated at 10 am by Dr Bernard Moras.
