Mastimol ITI building on verge of collapse, students await shift to new premises

Mastimol, Aug 18: The 35-year-old government-run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Mastimol, perched on a hillock, is in a dilapidated state and could collapse any time, members of the institute’s managing committee (IMC) have warned.

“The stability of the building is very weak. It is our responsibility to ensure the safety of the 220 students and staff,” IMC member Datta alias Manoj Prabhugaonkar said, stressing the urgent need for relocation.

Principal Anish Gaude informed that a new building has already been handed over and will be operational within a month after furniture installation and completion of occupancy procedures. However, the approach road is yet to be constructed, with the Public Works Department (PWD) awaiting a break in the monsoon to begin work.

Meanwhile, the renovation file for the old building has been approved, and work will commence once rains subside. “Students of engineering trades will return to the old building once repairs are complete,” Gaude said.

IMC members have urged authorities to shift students to the new facility at the earliest, prioritising their safety.
