Goa Vet college launch deferred to next academic year

Panaji, Sep 11: The launch of the Goa College of Veterinary Science at Ponda has been postponed to the 2026–27 academic year due to construction delays and pending faculty recruitment.

Veena Kumar, Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS), said, “There were plans for the college to start this year, but it will now happen next year after infrastructure completion. We have officially appointed the dean.” Nodal officer Parag Nagarsekar added that while 40% of construction is complete, early monsoon rains delayed further progress, leaving 60% of the work pending.

Recruitment of faculty and staff is underway, with the state cabinet approving the appointment of the college’s dean. Currently, Goa sends 11 students annually to veterinary colleges in Maharashtra, and the state has assured that remaining campus work will be expedited for admissions in 2026.
