Manchester, Sep 12: Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has officially joined Turkish club Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025/26 season, with the deal pending international clearance and registration. The move was finalized just before the Turkish transfer window closes on Friday.
Trabzonspor confirmed the signing with a statement: “An agreement has been reached with Manchester United regarding the free temporary transfer of professional footballer Andre Onana to our club for the 2025–2026 season.”
The 29-year-old Cameroon international leaves Old Trafford after a rollercoaster two seasons. Signed from Inter Milan in July 2023, Onana quickly established himself as United’s No. 1, making 102 appearances in total. He was almost ever-present in his debut campaign and played a key role in the club’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City at Wembley, ending the season on a high.

In the 2024/25 season, Onana continued to be first choice, making 50 appearances and becoming the first goalkeeper to win the Premier League’s Save of the Month award three times. However, things took a turn this year.
A hamstring injury sidelined him during pre-season, and his only appearance in the 2025/26 campaign came in a shock Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town, where he was at fault for a key goal and United crashed out on penalties. That performance further cast doubts over his place in the squad.
His exit was further paved by United's deadline-day signing of Belgian keeper Senne Lammens, 23, from Royal Antwerp in a deal worth €21 million (£18.1m) plus add-ons. Lammens joins Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton in manager Ruben Amorim’s revised goalkeeping lineup.
As United prepare for a Premier League clash with Manchester City this weekend, Onana begins a fresh chapter in Turkey—hoping to rediscover form and consistency at Trabzonspor.
