Mangaluru, Sept 21: In a significant crackdown on the local drug trade, Mulki police on Saturday arrested a 27-year-old man who allegedly attempted to sell ganja near Karnad, arriving at the spot in an auto. The accused, Yatiraj, is a resident of Katipalla Krishnapura in Surathkal.

According to police sources, Yatiraj was caught red-handed with 1.2 kilograms of ganja, an auto used for transportation, and Rs 300 in cash believed to be proceeds from earlier sales. He has been remanded to judicial custody following his arrest.

The arrest stems from an earlier case reported on September 14, in which three individuals—Prajwal (25) of Kapikad, Mulki; Pramod (22) of Kurikatte, Baikampady; and Steven (29)—were taken into custody for ganja consumption.

During interrogation, they reportedly provided crucial information that led to Yatiraj's apprehension.

Speaking on the success of the operation, police officials stated, "The information obtained from the earlier arrests helped us track and arrest the main supplier. This is a major step in curbing the local distribution network."

With the seizure of narcotics, the vehicle used, and cash, Mulki police have intensified their vigilance in the region, aiming to dismantle what appears to be a growing chain of illegal drug activity.
