Colombo, Sep 27: Pathum Nissanka’s blistering century nearly derailed India’s campaign, but a brilliant Super Over from Arshdeep Singh helped India edge past Sri Lanka and book a place in the Asia Cup final with their sixth straight victory on Friday.
Electing to bat, India posted a tournament-high 202 for 5 in 20 overs, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s third half-century—an electrifying 61 off 31 balls—and a composed 49 not out from Tilak Varma. Sanju Samson added a quickfire 39, striking three towering sixes to regain form at No. 5.

Sri Lanka responded fiercely as Nissanka hammered 107 off 58 balls, his first century of this edition, and stitched a 128-run partnership with Kusal Perera (58). Their onslaught left India’s bowlers reeling, especially Harshit Rana (1/54) and Arshdeep (1/46), who conceded heavy runs early on.
Despite the punishment, India clawed back. Varun Chakravarthy (1/31) broke the stand by stumping Perera, while Kuldeep Yadav (1/31) kept the pressure on. Sri Lanka matched India’s 202, with skipper Dasun Shanaka needing three off the last ball but managing only two, forcing a Super Over.
Arshdeep rose to the occasion, conceding just two runs and claiming two wickets in five balls. Suryakumar Yadav then sealed the chase in a single delivery, sparking celebrations in the Indian camp.
Abhishek’s powerplay fireworks—eight fours and two sixes—set the tone, though he once again missed a hundred, falling at deep mid-wicket. Samson’s audacious sixes, including a majestic strike over the sight-screen off Wanindu Hasaranga, provided vital momentum.
While India’s bowlers endured a tough outing, Arshdeep’s composure in the Super Over proved decisive, ensuring India remain unbeaten and head confidently into the Asia Cup final.
