Mangaluru, Oct 4: A clash broke out between police personnel and a group of youths during the Dasara procession in Ullal on Friday night after the police halted the loudspeakers of some tableaux.

Police detained three youths — Rakshith, Ashish, and Ashwath — on charges of obstructing police duty. Following this, members of the public suspended the procession and staged a protest in front of the Ullal police station, demanding their immediate release.

The Dasara procession, organized as part of the water immersion ritual at Sharada Niketan, had passed through Ullal Pete, Vidyaranya Nagar, and the internal roads of Cheermb Bhagavathi Kshetra before reaching Abbakka Circle near the Ullal police station. Some tableaux had already passed in front of the station when police intervened to halt the remaining ones, leading to tension and a clash between the gathered youths and the police.

Agitated participants suspended the procession and gathered in front of the station, declaring that they would resume the event only after the detained youths were released. DCP Mithun H N arrived at the spot and summoned additional police personnel to control the situation.

BJP district president Satish Kumpala, leader Santosh Boliyar, and Mogaveera community president Yashavanth Amin also visited the station and held talks with the DCP. The DCP clarified that Rakshith, one of the detained youths, had previous cases registered against him and had allegedly used abusive language against the police. He assured that the other two youths would be released and instructed that the procession continue peacefully.

A case has been registered against Rakshith Shetty (27) of Sevantigudde based on a complaint filed by PSI Krishna for obstructing police duty.

"one of the detained youths, had previous cases registered against him and had allegedly used abusive language against the police", such uncultured criminals should be shot on sight instead of detaining, as such people are threat to the society, shooting on sight will also save tax payers money which is used for feeding these criminals in jail.
