Mumbai, Oct 17: Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda has finally addressed persistent rumours about his alleged habit of arriving late on film sets, clarifying that many of the delays attributed to him are beyond his control. Speaking on the talk show Too Much with Kajol and Twinkle, the Hero No. 1 star expressed disappointment over how the allegations have affected his reputation.
“I’ve been defamed for not arriving on time. I said, ‘Whose father has the strength to do five shifts and still come on time? It’s just not possible. How can a person handle so much shooting? Here, people get tired doing just one film,’” Govinda explained, defending himself against the accusations.

He added that while he values punctuality, delays often occur due to traffic, scheduling conflicts, or other departments not being ready. “Sometimes delays are outside one’s control — these factors shouldn’t be blamed on the actor,” he said.
Govinda also criticised media exaggeration, noting that minor incidents have been blown out of proportion, creating a false narrative of unprofessionalism. He urged his colleagues and the film fraternity to exercise empathy and mutual respect. “People should think before spreading rumours. Respect should always be mutual among coworkers,” he remarked.
With a career spanning over three decades, Govinda remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved entertainers. His most recent theatrical release, Rangeela Raja (2019), received mixed reviews, but the actor continues to enjoy a strong fan following.
