Panaji, Nov 3: In a shocking incident, the manager and security staff of a popular restaurant in North Goa have been booked for allegedly assaulting a family from Uttar Pradesh who were on vacation in the coastal state. The incident occurred late on Saturday night at a well-known club near the beach.
According to police, the family from Varanasi had gone to the restaurant for dinner around 11.30 pm. In the complaint filed on Sunday, a woman from the family alleged that the manager, a waiter, and a few bouncers attacked them following a misunderstanding over a leftover drink and a chair.

The complainant stated that after taking a table, one of their family members — who arrived late — mistakenly picked up a leftover drink from an adjacent table where previous patrons had already left. “As soon as this happened, the manager started shouting and abusing us. We apologised and even offered to pay for the drink, which we did,” she said in her statement.
However, matters escalated again around 2 am, when one of the family members “accidentally pushed a chair aside,” triggering a violent reaction from the restaurant staff. The manager, waiter, and several bouncers allegedly assaulted the family with fists and slaps.
The complainant alleged that as they tried to leave, one of the bouncers hit her brother with an iron pole on his chest and back, breaking his spectacles. “When I tried to stop him, the bouncer slapped me, tried to pull my T-shirt, and hurled abuses at me,” she stated, adding that her sister was also pushed to the ground during the chaos.
Police have registered a case against the restaurant’s manager, waiter, and security personnel under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including assault and outraging the modesty of a woman.
Investigations are underway, and police said further action will be taken once statements from all parties and CCTV footage from the restaurant are examined.
