Chennai, Jan 12: The makers of director Mohan G’s much-anticipated Tamil–Telugu historical epic Draupathi 2 have officially announced that the film will hit theatres on January 15, coinciding with the Pongal festival.
The decision comes after the postponement of Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan, which opened up a prime festival release window. The Draupathi 2 team was among the first to capitalise on the opportunity, firming up plans to ensure a Pongal release. Earlier, sources close to the production had confirmed that the film would arrive during the festive period, with final dates being worked out.
On Monday, the makers formally confirmed January 15 as the release date, building further anticipation among fans and trade circles.

Produced by Chola Chakravarthy under the Netaji Productions banner in association with G. M Film Corporation, Draupathi 2 has generated significant buzz due to its historical theme and scale. According to sources, the film is set in the 14th century and revolves around key historical developments during the reign of Hoysala emperor Veera Vallalar III. It also explores the bravery and resistance of the Kadavarayas of Sendhamangalam, alongside the political upheavals caused by the Mughal invasion of Tamil Nadu.
The film stars Richard Rishi and Rakshana Induchoodan in the lead roles, with actor and cinematographer Natti Natraj playing an important character. The ensemble cast further includes Y. G. Mahendran, Nadodigal Barani, Saravana Subbiah, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan, adding depth and grandeur to the narrative.
On the technical front, Draupathi 2 brings together an experienced crew. The Telugu dialogues have been written by Samrat, while the film’s music has been composed by Ghibran Vaibodha. Cinematography is handled by Philip R. Sundar, choreography by Thanika Tony, and action sequences by stunt master Action Santosh. Editing is overseen by Devaraj, with Kamalnathan in charge of art direction.
With its historical backdrop, festival release, and strong technical backing, Draupathi 2 is poised to be a notable addition to the Pongal line-up.
