Greg Chappell Attacks Indian Culture and Cricket Team

Adelaide, Mar 8 (PTI): In a vicious attack on Indian culture and Indian cricket team of which he was the coach, Greg Chappell has said that the side lacked leaders because parents, school teachers and coaches made all decisions in the Indian system.

"The (Indian) culture is very different, it's not a team culture. They lack leaders in the team because they are not trained to be leaders. From an early age, their parents make all decisions, their schoolteachers make their decisions, their cricket coaches make the decisions," Chappell said.

"The culture of India is such that, if you put your head above the parapet someone will shoot it. Knock your head off. So they learn to keep their head down and not take responsibility.

"The Poms (British) taught them really well to keep their head down. For if someone was deemed to be responsible, they'd get punished. So the Indians have learned to avoid responsibility. So before taking responsibility for any decisions, they prefer not to," Chappell was quoted as saying by cricinfo at a promotional event for his book 'Fierce Focus'.

Chappell said Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was an exception to that rule but even he seems to have lost to the system.

"Dhoni is one of the most impressive young men that I have ever worked with. When he came into that Indian team, you just knew that he was a leader in the making. He was definitely someone who could make decisions, and he didn't mind putting his head above the parapet, and didn't mind putting the bigger players in their place. I think he is the best thing to have happened to Indian cricket in recent times," he said.

whatever is said by mr.chappell that looks ridiculious.chappell sirji your own country dont have any culture and you are telling us that our culture is worst.we respect our elders,we respect their decisions.we are very calm people if we were not like this, you could have been kicked out from the indian cricket team. You wanted all like tamed animals in our team who listens to you if you are right or crap .Though initially you were successful in your divide and rule, quickly some seniors smelt your vicious and dubious character and complained against your character to management.......so just keep yourself away from this indian team otherwise you would be treated the same.

i totally agree with greg chapell, regarding what he said about indian culture.it is 100% correct that indian culture is full of hypocrisy and double standard.indian people doesn't have any sense of right and wrong.right from our birth we are humiliated, canned.that's why in course of our future we always fear.we are unable to take decisions in our life.we always take pride in our culture and strong value system.but what is the use of such culture, when we are unable to eradicate certain nuances which has already plagued india's image.those nuances are corruption, female foeticide, eve teasing, casteism.while i do agree that Australian people always have high opinion about themselves, but they justify this with their hard work, commitment whether it is in sports or development of their nation.,they always put their country first before personal interest.right from their childhood they are mentally strong, that's why when they grow up,they are stubborn, proud and status conscious unlike indian people who always back off from certain decisions once they get pressurized, moreover indian people have knack of stooping down to such low level, that one can't even imagine, that is,if they feel that they have to face some sort of adversity in near future, they always resort to cheap tactics.i am an indian, but i am ashamed of my nationality.so greg chapell is totally justified in making that statement

''It's a mere publicity stunt for his upcoming book..good luck with his book sales.I don't think his comments are worth even getting a response .It's a known fact that chapell was the biggest misadventure undertaken by the BCCI. He was and is a disaster to the world cricket.''

We don't have to hear from this crook called Greg Chappell. We know our culture and also we know western culture. Every culture has it's own pros and cons. So Greg can't attack our culture. For me I still feel my culture is best. I respect elder's, treat my wife in the same catogery that of me, guide my children and support them. There is no ego between me and my wife as we both have mutual respect.

I know one guy in sharjah khalid port a proc manager aussie a true diactorial and nasty against indians. Chappel may be his younger brother and not elder! I have seen 2 types of Aussies. One down to earth whereas second uncultured dictatorial dubiuos characters like Sharjah one.2nd ones typically against indians and indian culture by nature.2nd ones try to take one indian betrayer on their side and try to destroy other indians. Chappal belongs to 2nd category. For the 2nd category there are supporters especially some british people support them since many Aussies are Ex Brits deported ! Afterall country man likes excountry man

MR CHAPPEL DONT POINT OUT INDIAN CULTURE.
India is a country of heterogeneous people. Here we find multifarious languages, religions, Castes and creeds. However, in the midst of all such diversities of character, there is an underlying unity among them.

Indian culture and heritage has its own charm that attracts the travelers from all around the globe. India is blessed with rich culture and heritage. The culture of India is one of the oldest cultures in the world. Right from the medieval period there prevail diverse cultural diversities in form of dances, languages, religions, people, their customs, festivals. Every state of India has its own distinct cultures and has carved out its own cultural niche. In spite of so much of cultural diversities, Indian's are closely bond and makes India as a great country perhaps because of its common history. Dating back to over 5000 years old civilization, India's culture has been adorned by migrating population, which over a period got absorbed into the Indian way of life. This great Indian culture comprises of Indian music, Indian Dance, Indian cuisine, costumes and Indian Festivals.

It would be foolish of ourselves to relate Greg's comments to religious or Indian traditional culture. But if you put a thought in broad prespective Greg Chappel hit a bull'eye.. Truth is always bitter, but its the fact.

But the preaching law of Greg Chappel was completely against him. Either Saurav Ganguly or VVS Laxman never bowed their heads fearing cutting off their heads going above the parapet. As per Chappels sermon, if everyone want to be leader who will be the followers. Indians are peace loving people Mr. Chappel

Deep within we all know what Chappel us saying is right. Every culture has a good and a bad side. Fortunately for Indians and our culture of tolerance and non violence ( to a large extent)we have remained away from wars and internal strifes - resulting in Civil Wars. If you see the arab world and africa, lots of lives are lost for the silliest of reasons. Religion, Club Football gone wrong, Boko haram ( West is wrong) in Nigeria etc.Certain idelogies of negative individuals have shaped the cultures of their countries. Ours is a subdued nation, moreso because of the 347 years of POMS ruling us. As chappel said, any head coming above the parapet was cut off. Because we were subdued as a nation for centuries by various rulers- right from Mughals and then portugese, french and british, we became a nation that was waiting to be looted. There is a popular saying " When rape is inevitable , sit back relax and enjoy" . Im saying this in a dark sense but certainly there is no humuour in this text. Somewhere down the line , over centuries, getting looted became just another exercise in another day in Indias life. So, people started accepting it as " Oh , its them again, nothing new". Our attitudes are similiar to Terrorism also. We care a damn about what happens in India or for that matter in padubidri or any bidri where there is naxalism. Until and unless it does not strike our homes, we will never get active. It is always someone elses job to correct it and fight, For E.g: police, law enforcement, Military, BSF etc etc. When and if some of us come together to form a unit as part of citizen vigilantes, then there will be the RSS, Bajrang Dal, SRS, BJP, Cong, JDS and XYZ coercing people for affiliations and making it a political issue. So, the bottom line and observation here is - We accept it when a white man tells us our flaws but do not accept when one of our own shows us who we are. At the end of the day INDIAN skies are the ones that offer a roof to any weary traveller.

Even though there’s lot of truth in Greg’s speech, his is a typical case of sour grapes. Just wondering what Greg would have to say had India continued their winning streak following 2011 world cup. Probably, India’s pre-world cup failures would’ve been forgotten and someone like Greg wouldn’t dare do this cultural analysis.. Success they say has many parents whereas failure often is an orphan.

Its better for Greg to concentrate on cricket matters rather then the culture of other country. If he was so much proud about his country & his culture why he worked for India that also by getting a huge sum.
We Indians have a society & culture which has a rich history of thousand years & If we go back 100 years & look at Aussi culture, you can see the deported criminals from England.

Greg, we can accept you talking for the Cricket or weakness of Cricket in India and abroad....But talking about Indian Culture is indeed not acceptable. You always thinking negative about Indian Cricket, but you were ex coach of Indian Cricket team, accepted and you even not hesitate to criticize Gangully...Sachin... These remarks are uncalled for and for your information we were accomplished in Cricket quite comfortably winning two world cups and having Sachin Tendulkar who can't beaten anybody in the world of Cricket.Greg, think of your country's culture and cricket that would be good for you.

Though initially you suceeded in finishing Ganguly and his career because you simply did not like tiger like leader qualities in ganguly. You wanted all like tamed animals in our team who listens to you if you are right or crap .Though initially you were successful in your divide and rule, quickly some seniors smelt your vicious and dubious character and complained against your character to management. You were a leader of yesteryears and for todays world of modern ideas and behavior and equal respect. You praise one to put other down.Isnt it? By the way Pawar wanted to make you a consultant.Did you finally sign it or it was a game frm Pawar to send you off once for all with some sweet cheap biscuits in your mouth to lick in the melbourne flight?
