Ranchi, May 24: Gurindervir Singh created history by becoming the fastest Indian ever after clocking 10.09 seconds in the men’s 100m event at the 29th National Federation Cup Athletics Championships in Ranchi.
The 25-year-old sprinter, who serves in the Indian Navy, became the first Indian athlete to complete the 100m race in under 10.1 seconds.
Representing the Reliance Foundation, Gurindervir won the gold medal at the Birsa Munda Stadium on Saturday.

This was the second time within 24 hours that he broke the national record.
On Friday, Gurindervir had first surpassed the previous national mark of 10.19 seconds during the semifinal heats. Minutes later, former record holder Animesh Kujur reclaimed the record with a timing of 10.15 seconds.
However, Gurindervir returned strongly in the final and rewrote the record books with his 10.09-second finish. Animesh secured silver, finishing 0.11 seconds behind, while Pranav Gurav took bronze with a timing of 10.29 seconds.
With the feat, Gurindervir also breached the qualifying mark of 10.16 seconds set by the Athletics Federation of India for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
His timing is currently the second-fastest recorded by an Asian athlete this season, behind Japanese teenager Fukuto Komuro, who clocked 10.08 seconds earlier this month.
After the race, Gurindervir celebrated by holding up his bib carrying the message: “Task is not finished yet. Wait, I am still standing,” along with the underlined figure “10.10s”.
Speaking after his victory, the sprinter thanked his family, coaches and support staff for their constant support.
He also praised the Reliance Foundation for providing world-class training facilities and credited his parents for motivating him throughout his journey.
The Indian Navy congratulated the athlete on social media, stating: “The fastest man in India wears Whites.”
