London, May 28: The Indian men’s football team suffered a disappointing 0-2 defeat against Jamaica in the semi-finals of the Unity Cup in London, marking an unsuccessful debut appearance in the four-nation tournament.
Courtney Clarke’s stunning strike in the eighth minute and Kaheim Dixon’s brilliant solo goal in the 78th minute sealed Jamaica’s place in the final at The Valley Stadium, home of Charlton Athletic Football Club.

India will now face Zimbabwe in the third-place playoff on Saturday after the African side lost to Nigeria in the other semi-final. Nigeria and Jamaica will clash in the tournament final.
The match also marked several individual milestones, with Noufal PN and Ricky Shabong making their senior India debuts, while Edmund Lalrindika received his first start for the national team.
India were playing on British soil for the first time since 2002 but struggled to cope with Jamaica’s pace and attacking movement.
Jamaica took the lead early after a quick counterattack exposed India’s defence. Although goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu initially made a save, Clarke capitalised on a loose clearance and fired a powerful strike into the top-right corner.
Ranked 71st in the FIFA rankings, Jamaica continued to dominate proceedings and created several dangerous chances through the wings.
Kaheim Dixon nearly doubled the lead in the 17th minute, but Sandhu produced another crucial save to keep India in the contest.
India gradually settled into the game but failed to create meaningful attacking opportunities in the first half, with players like Lallianzuala Chhangte, Ryan Williams and Lalrindika struggling to influence the match.
After the break, India briefly looked threatening when Roshan Singh set up Rahim Ali following a defensive error from Jamaica. However, the move was ruled offside before Chhangte could score into an empty net.
The missed opportunity lifted India’s momentum temporarily as coach Khalid Jamil’s side pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
However, Jamaica put the match beyond doubt in the 78th minute when Charlton Athletic winger Kaheim Dixon produced a superb individual effort, dribbling past defenders before firing a low shot past Sandhu into the far corner.
India failed to recover after conceding the second goal as Jamaica comfortably secured victory to advance to the final.
