Mangalore, May 23: As per the orders of Dr K Harish Kumar, commissioner of Mangalore city corporation (MCC), the officials along with the environment engineer Manjunath R Shetty and other health inspectors paid a surprise visit to most of the hotels, shops and petty vendors here in the city on Wednesday, May 23.

The officials closed down some shops for running business without the license issued from the municipality.  They were also penalized and were asked to run the shop only after getting the license from MCC.

Apart from the examination of licenses, the inspectors took the hotel owners to task. In the first visit, no penalty was imposed to the hotel owners but they were warned to observe proper measures for cleanliness. If the hotel owners don’t learn from the warning, the license would be taken back and penalty will be imposed, the officials said.

The raid was carried out even to the 'bhel puri dhabas' and those petty shops where fruits are cut and sold. They warned them to maintain the proper measures of cleanliness.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Inspector Bharath Kumar said that the raid will go on in the city permanently to regulate the proper practices. The raid was conducted in places like Athavar and Hampankatte.

In addition, mobile, general and grocery shops were also raided.

Sanitation inspectors Sushan, Santhosh, Karunakar, Babu Mallana, Yashwanth and Bharath Kumar among others were part of the team which carried out the raid.

Regulations on the hygiene conditions of restaurant should be issued by the Ministry of Health that consist of a set of rules on food processing, personal hygiene of staff and locations of restaurants. Similarly it should be issued on other establishments too and they should display the Rules & Regulation chart at a prominent place so that the customer can view them.

Indian restaurants are horribly maintained, filths are everywhere, kitchen staff are not hygienic, days leftover is carried over to next day, due to food pilferages the kitchens in the dark are the breeding ground of rodents and cockroaches. Oils are over used & the burnt residue cause cancer, kitchen flies causes Delhi Belly, sick staff is allowed to work with communicable diseases like common cold and their virus germs contaminate the food, the food handling staff doesn’t wash their hand with soap after using toilet…

The MCC health officers are corrupt and they are hands-in-gloves with those badly maintained establishments. India has rules but very bad governance hence the overall developments are not reflected in the Indian streets. Our roads, bridges, gutters, buildings, footpaths, traffic signals, road side parking, pedestrian crossings… are not in order and moreover the public spit pan-juice on freshly painted walls, urinate on the building walls, throw leftovers on the streets and public transport vehicles don’t follow lane rules/park-stop rules/honking rules and the whole country still looks like an under-developed banana republic.

For the success of any event or programme a centralized drive is necessary to prepare the stake-holders to hold their hands on to it. It could be called a Descent and Ascent process. There should be a political consensus that governance has to extend beyond conventional bureaucracies and involve actively citizen and consumer groups at all levels, to inform the public and disadvantaged groups, so as to ensure proper ution.

Very good move of the MCC's Health Inspectors they should ride and inspection all the hotels in Mangalore. Which of some hotels are providing the food to their customers like it’s ok if giving anything (sub chalthahe) unclean expired fully oily etc.MCC should care about quality of the hotel food and its healthy measures.
If this move is because of the new mayor, then really we all should appreciate her, But the narrow minded people like rakesh will blame the mayor if suppose even the cyclone hits to city.

Mr. Rakesh Shetre.. if the ongoing issue is due to the appointment of Gulzar Banu as mayor, Then you must be lucky and accept that her appointment is a blessing in disguise. The ongoing raid at hotel and shops will ensure you clean and healthy food. You won't need to worry of expired foods. Otherwise you might have ended up with "julaab" (loose motion) by eating expired Golibaje , Vade sambar or Kori Rotty at untidy and stinky hotels. So you should appreciate Gulzar Banus presence which directly or indirectly paves way to a healthy environment. If not ready to thank her atleast thank god for safeguarding your health.

Lets hope that they dont get into a slumber in monsoons when malaria is rampant. By the way its not the MCC's job to handle law & order. There is a department (not referring to Ram Gopal Verma) called Police for that.

Assuming that the motive behind the move is "GOOD", it is good initiative.

    Why go arround like hooligans.
But I would think that there is better way to do this. Today there are lots of ways to inform the people.

They should list out the requirements for each industry, each type of outlet and publish int he news paper. And say this will be implemented from "X" Date. After which there would be action taken.

Since many years, we did not seen this type of Drama in Mangalore Limits, but now really it's surprise to know. I think, the raiding team may be had Dubai (UAE) City Tour and the same rules they are trying to apply at Mangalore. When Money speaks no rules or cleanliness required. Dear Rakesh.
This is a good thinking by the Mayor. Cleanliness is everybodys concern and this should be followed without any inspection by inspectors. A layman (normal public person) is paying the money for what he eats and drinks and if there is no proper cleanliness and if the mosquitoes and other insects and feeded with the food which we eat it doesnt mean cleanliness. Well done MCC and carry on the good job for the benefit of the public.
