Mangalore, Jul 24: Vishnu Namdev Kadam hailing from Amboda taluk in Maharashtra was mentally ill since childhood. Although his family members knew about his condition, they got him married.

In 2009, Vishnu left his home without any notice and landed up in Mangalore. Joseph Crasta, managing trustee of Snehalayam, the person responsible for rendering his services to the poor, sick and destitute, took him under his care from Bendur church and he was later treated at Yenepoya hospital.

After his treatment, Vishnu was brought to Snehalaya home and was looked after with lots of attention, love and care, which soon put him on the road to recovery and he was fit and healthy in no time.

As he was back to being normal, he urged Joseph to let him go back to his house. With the help of an address and a photo provided by him, a letter was posted to his family members and thus Vishnu was reunited. He was then sent back to his house on Friday July 20.

Soon after Vishnu left home in 2009, his wife gave birth to their child, left home and has been residing in her maternal house. In April this year, his father passed away.

Vishnu is among the several who have got a new lease of life thanks to Snehalaya.
