Mangalore, May 25: In connection to the death of children due to dengue in D Saalundi village of Mysore Taluk, health minister U T Khadar said that the health department will take this issue seriously and act on it.
 
Addressing media persons during a public grievance meet held at circuit house on Saturday May 25, minister Khadar said that he visited the village on Friday May 24 and in this regard he has asked all district health officers (DHOs) to create awareness on communicable diseases and thus take steps to prevent them.

"Besides the two deaths, there are several children who have been tested positive for dengue. If similar cases occur in future then DHOs will be held responsible," he warned.
 
When asked about support extended to Endosulfan victims, Khadar said that he has instructed the department to prepare a detailed report of all the victims within a month. "Steps will be taken to ensure that no one is left out," he assured.
 
About the construction of a permanent sea wall at Ullal, Khadar said the project will be checked by the officials of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and a meeting will be held soon in this regard.
 
The health minister also said that necessary steps will be taken to fill the vacancies at health centers.
 
On the occasion, various people came to meet the minister and expressed their grievances.
 
Amongst them, four women namely, Susanna T A, Gulzar Banu, Kasturi and Geetha Kumari speaking to Daijiworld said that they joined work as junior health assistants but in spite of completing general nursing degree and diploma in nursing education and administration from Tamil Nadu, they have not been promoted.
 
"We do not want hike in salary, we just want a suitable job for our qualification," they said.

Responding to their problems in a positive way, minister Khadar said that he will discuss the matter with the officials concerned.

    Many people were tested positive for Dengue in Valencia, Kaprigudda and Falnir region.
    The construction labourers are the main carrier of Dengue Fever Virus. These poor labourers sleep in open places inside the construction site without proper mosquito-net or fan.
    MCC health department should make all the property developers to get their migrant labourers compulsorily checked for Malaria, Dengue and Chikungunya fever.
    MCC should regularly fog the area for mosquitoes and check open water tanks and water-stagnating flower pots, tyres, coconut-shells, open drains etc.
    There are few Nursing Homes, Clinics and Labs in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada who are not reporting such cases to the MCC health department.
    The common-men with killer Dengue, Malaria and Chikungunya fever suffer with severe headache, fall of platelets & even death and it takes a big toll on their pockets.

    Post required staff members to these medicak centres and be clear to them that you mean right service to the sick people.I know Mr.Khadar,young capable and hard working minister like you may not find any problems to put the health department as good performing unit.Thanq.
