Mangalore, Apr 5: Hundreds of customers, who deposited advance payments in gold protection scheme at Euro Gold, a jewellery store at Kankanady on Saturday April 5 claimed that they were duped after the store closed down some months back and its management became inaccessible.

Mohammed Zainuddhin, a resident of Bajal was one among the several customers who had gathered in front of the store on Saturday. The board of directors – Mohammed Shafeeq and Sajad are not reachable, said Ilyas Ahmed of Udupi, one of the customers who had made a deposit of Rs 34,000.

Zainuddhin said that the jewellery store was shut down in the month of December. The employees in the office which is located above the store said that the store was closed down for renovation. "It is almost five months now, but they are not responding," Ahmed added.

When a few among those who had deposited advance payments asked for the money back, cheques were issued to them. However, the cheques bounced when they tried to encash, one of the customers said. All those who were at the store had receipts of payment and cheques issued by the store.

It is said that nearly 100 customers had deposited at least Rs 40 lac under the gold protection scheme launched by Euro Gold. The official website of Euro Gold stated that the scheme enabled customers to make an advance payment for the gold they intended to buy. The customers thus had an advantage in that even if the gold price rose, they could purchase the gold at the booked rate and if the price went down on the day of purchase, they could purchase the gold at a lower rate.

Like Zainuddin, more than a hundred customers deposited advance payments when the price of the gold went down drastically. A M Abdul Rahiman of Manjanady  made advance payment of Rs 35,000 when the price of the gold was Rs 2,555 on April, 2013.

The customers who gathered at the store on Saturday demanded that their money be given back by the store management or they would take legal recourse. They said they plan to file a police complaint by next week if the store fails to respond.

I just cant understand People who are running behind when someone says Gold. These companies are rising like mushrooms from earth and vanish just like them.we must think noone has to give gift.everyone works only for their own benefit.we should go to a jeweler and a bank of our faith .who has undergone many rainy and hot seasons. It might be a bit costlier but not loosing the worth. They too mind who is a good customer always coming to them.Gold scheme is for People who wants faster Money, may vanish like here or get less worth Gold.

Guys, take care before you are taken for a ride by these vultures. We have to be very careful since these type of people are not there for our good, only start such plans to make money illegally. By the way now what about the BD,Ramasena doing moral police got to sleep. Wake up only attacking women who go to pubs, homestay, etc.

Kalyan!!!!!!!to my dismay when i visited the showroom they said the showroom is closing all gold schemes. Since i have paid 12 installments already, i have been asked to encash the same by purchasing gold. When asked for the reason the store manager told me some issues with RBI, hence all gold schemes will be closed.

We must be very careful in our gold purchase. These Jewellery shops loot the common people with their unexplainable making charge and wastage. Their calculation is not transparent. They put huge tax and then show the concession and mega offers. This is my own experience. Verify the rate before purchase

Catch the culprits. They should run. Please leave them on their chaddi till they return all money. Dont make them nanga. Police and volunteers should help the Daiji to find out more of their real drama.

I had very much expected this..
These days some new young blooded businessmen think that key to success is by false prestige. Aftr a small level success, they move on to build castles in the air.
How can i forget the fashion show and getting john abraham for inauguration spending lakhs of rupees. One should be careful when its not their money they are using for such lavish grandeur. This is a lesson.....
    Divine lesson.

These out of town gold business houses cannot be trusted because anytime they may pack their bags and leave ,keeping the public hard earned money .Our old business were loyal to the customers and vice versa. This guy will go to another city set up shop there dupe more people and move on ,,it better for the authorities to hand over these elements to the CBI and end once for all ,they are all in the lookout for us vulnerable customers.Next time use an old business house who are anytime reliable.

Most probably ALL the Gold Consignment was confiscated by Mangalore Airport Customs, so they were forced to shut down their shutters!
The lure of Gain always causes heart burn later.
Put your money in Banks every month & buy gold or any precious items with it instead of giving your hard earned money to anyone hoping they would honor their promise.

Dear freinds, pls do not believe these gold schemes. Also be careful when u exchange your old gold. They talk something and in return their calculation all fake. They cheat customers as they have huge store with continue A/C.This all just for show and all the overhead expenses they cover up from customers.Pls do not believe in any gold schemes as most of these schemes and gold shop owners are from Kerala and from Kasargod.I agree with mr.Eric Coelho comments, try exchanging gold or buying gold from Canara Jewellers, SL shet Diamond house even Abharan Jewellers. They are real honest people and do not cheat customers.

Another interesting factor is that Mangalore has several Gold loan lending Companies all most all from Gods won land Kerala and doing gold loan business in hundreds of crores. and chanrging interst at an exorbitant rates. These companies have not proper safe vault nor following security norms like banks prescribed by RBI.Customers are to have no knowledge of these systems.Office staff of these companies have no permanent location or nature of employment. Those join today may leave tomorrow. There is n loyalty factor like banks.Gold is appraised by a single man who is not trained in this line and there is no responsibility also.

These companies are making hundreds of cres in Mangalore and tthousands of crores all India wise.I simply wonder the managing system these companies.PSU BanKs and private banks thogh charge minimum interest and dealings are 100% transperent take inprdinate delay to grant gold loans. This is the only reason why needy people throng these Kerala based gold loan companies for urgent loans. It may not be surprise that one day we may have to read the theft news/loot news we are reading daily now in regard to ATMs etc.,
    God only should save people.

I have been a Mangalore resident for 57 years and during my young days there were only Canara Jewellers, SL Shet Jewellers and other small time one's. Since 5 to 6 years numerous Gold shops have opened in Mangalore and offering unbelievable schemes which even Canara or SL Shet have never done. Most of these new gold shops are from Kerala and I am afraid that these new shops could be fly by night jewellers. Time we go back to our old jewellers CAnara and SL Shet. They have been honest and sincere.

@Eric Coelho you are very right sir, and another important point to be observed is that is there so much scope in a small city like Mangluru for such huge jewellery souks to run profitable business after calculating for their "high overheads"???

The very scheme under which they collected money seems to be untenable on the face of it, then how could the gullible investors put their hard earned money in that, just because of greed??

Since they have shut shop for months now, cheques have bounced, and not responding to communication is clear indication that these white collar thugs have gobbled up the booty collected from 100s of innocent gullible's hard earned money!! Still pray a miracle happens and they get their investments back!!!Jai Hind!!

It is now fashion to go to big Jewellery Mart(owned by outsider) to buy gold like fast food where one pay 30-40% more than what you pay at traditional Jewellery shop/goldsmith. Customer think he get 100% quality /guarantee which of course not. Only you get your Jewellery on time , but for what Cost??? Buy back offer-Diamond offer-Gold certificate all market game.

    Dear people
Similar schemes have been started by "KALYAN JEWELLERS" in and around D.K and Udupi dist. Their representatives visiting every houses with their schemes like deposit RS 1000/- every month and end of the year they return RS 13,000/- worth jewellery thus they tempt the people. Remember one day they collect crores of rupees and run away like Euro Gold. These gold shops belongs to big politicians and common people can't fight with them as whole Govt. supporting them despite they r frauds as they pour money during election time.
