Mangalore: NRE entrepreneur Michael D'Souza bats for AAP candidate

Daijiworld Media Network
With inputs from AAP media release

Mangalore, Apr 5: Well-known Mangalorean entrepreneur and philanthropist from Dubai, Michael D'Souza endorsed Aam Aadmi Party candidate M R Vasudeva from Dakshina Kannada constituency with not only a generous donation but even by urging all NRIs to support Aam Aadmi Party for a better India and a better Mangalore.

D'Souza visited Mangalore's AAP office recently to pledge his support to the party. Incidentally, AAP party office was also donated by him on lease, free of cost.

"People who vote for the established parties of the last century are indirectly supporting a corrupt and ineffective system that is responsible for the way in which politics has been conducted in the past 67 years, both at the state and national levels. Politicians have grabbed too much power and neither the Congress nor the BJP and all other regional parties want to change the system and give up their excessive and extraordinary discretionary powers. People who continue to vote as they have done so in the past, are either very well aware of the facts or simply ignorant," said Michael D'Souza.

"Now we have another viable choice in the Aam Aadmi Party and its DK candidate M R Vasudeva. In such a short period of time the AAP has shaken up the system, it is fighting for the aam aadmi, who is struggling to survive and is bringing about much needed change in a democratic manner. The AAP deserves the support and vote of well meaning patriotic people who wish to see a better India. A vote for Vasudeva is a vote for progress and a break from the past," he said.

Michael D'Souza also urged generous NRI entrepreneurs and others to contribute and support AAP so that strong and corrupt-free nation is built.

"I am quite impressed with the policies of AAP. Every rupee donated is transparent and details are available in their website. AAP is the only party to facilitate such a transparent method. This shows how we can get rid of corruption by simply being transparent," he said while speaking to daijiworld, after his visit to AAP office.

Dear friends - please reflect on the Delhi State Elections, the opportunity that was given to AAP and the misuse of this opportunity by none other than the CM and his Ministers..... by running the government from the pavement ... this reflection is good enough to choose your candidate or party before you vote. Don't waste your vote. You can remain within a party and refine it if you have the will you do not need an AAP

Till date each one of us complained about Congress and BJP for their Corrupt politics!!

The only reason for Christian/Muslim VOTERS to support CONGRESS was their Anger against BJP for playing communal politics!!

Also Hindu Voters supporting BJP because they think that only BJP can save Hindu's!!

My question is Simple.. India is a Hindu Country (Majority is HiNDU's)Then why we need some political party to save the Majority population?!!

One more thing we all have to learn!! that is in our neighborhood area we all are good friends with Other religion people.. Then why we need Congress and BJP to save us?!

    My dear Michael,

Thank U for having the courage to come out openly and put your money where your mouth is, ie, with the AAP.

Many people in Mangalore and DK want to get rid of corruption. But it is futile to even dream that the Congress or BJP can do it.

AAP has sincere & honest candidates across the country. Like John Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance", we should give AAP a chance too.

    Peace and love,

Congress did not do iota of a thing to help Christians. Dumb PM was closing his eyes until many people suffered. Both BJP and Congress are absolutely same . My dear friend Joseph,
It is okay to get upset if some Christians wish to support the AAP. However, I understand everyone has a right to make their own choice and have their own views. There are people from the Christian community in DK & Udupi who wish to give AAP a chance. I respect their choice, even if I do not fully agree with them. I understand how strongly you feel about the subject of votes getting divided and I am with you on this. Whether their choices turn out to be right or wrong only time will tell and I am sure they are prepared for the consequences if their reasons for opting to support a particular political party turn out to be wrong.
Just like how you and I feel strongly about supporting a party I believe others too have strong views and feelings with respect to the party they wish to support. However, I prefer to concern myself only with what is within my control and not get too concerned with what is not.
Joseph, knowing this, that if you have persons who oppose your views you also have many who support your views.
Wish you well and all the best ! Keep writing !

If it is your view that you don't give donation to political parties, then tell your view. As to the question of eradicating corruption, you and I can do it through a right forum. Today all parties are talking about Winn ability and the candidate even if he is a criminal, uneducated, corrupt does not matter for them. Issues don't bother them. Dear Michael D’Souza,
Philanthropy or Charity is good. After all it is your money and you have your wish and will which I am not against yet my suggestion is :
I am bit amazed that your charity to a Political Party. Instead of huge sum of money to the party, you should have built the houses to the poor and the needy.

    To the other commentators:
Citizens have the right to vote. However the bjp/janasangha and its associates are the worst since 1947 to as on date. AAP is a newest party and they are mainly concentrating on internal matters. In the internal matters only they are failing and how could they follow external matters/foreign affairs.

Decisions are all from one side and no broad mind is used.

We have faced grave economic crisis in the world and at last it has bitten to India. The U.P.A., headed by congress tackled in a patient way and the economy is reaping the results which were sown. The economy of the country will never recover on speculations.

President Pranab Mukharji very well answered Government is not a
President Pranab Mukherjee said that rise of hypocrisy in public life is dangerous and noted that government was "not a charity shop.

We don’t need anarchy, kargil war, purchase of coffins as the dheishbhakts purchasing coffins from Vidheish.

Dear Christians don’t fall prey to oratory, India shining campaigns and freebies.
No government works for the betterment of the citizens.
It is we the citizens have to work for ourselves.

Ants are climbing one over the other to reach their goal.

Mr. Joseph Gonsalves, please know the charity works of Mr. Michael D'Souza first and give him suggestions. He has done charity for building houses for the poor, educational assistance, scholarships, medical assistance. He has not sent back anybody, who has asked for help. Now he has helped the AAP to eradicate corruption from social life and bring a change. Again, this is also a charity considering the welfare of the people. Therefore, your remark of giving this money instead to building houses for the poor does not hold good, at least for Mr. Michael D' Souza. If you have anybody whom you know are in need of assistance for housing, please let us know and we will help those who are in need. This is not a hollow promise, because we walk the talk. Good luck.

In response to @N.M., I am not sure if helplines and audits can be considered as achievements. Are their helplines still operational or effective now that they have abdicated their responsibility? Crackdown on water mafia is not a real solution of the water crisis in Delhi but just a short sighted approach. It is the residents who have been affected the most by these crackdown by not getting water at all now or having to shell out more money now to get water.

With regard to the bus night shelters, many experts are not convinced that buses as night shelters are the right approach.

What AAP has done is not take any proactive measures, but just reactive measures or to put in a lighter vein just apply some make up to hide real scars.

Yes, I agree AAP was not in power for a long time to be judged this way but then, who has to be blamed for this. AAP and only itself. A lot of people had hopes from AAP in Delhi and voted for it. However, they just ran away from their responsibility. Do you think they deserve another chance so soon? I don’t think so. They need to work their way to the top by first fighting corporations, municipal elections and proving their efficiency. Only then, we should nurture and support them.

if everyone gives a deep thought with whatever number of seats AAP wins, AAP is not going to support any party, as for them all are corrupt. All who vote for AAP will then waste their vote

@ Prashanth, The bottom line is AAP got the ball rolling in Delhi and did a good job in a short span of time. I had read an article in December 2013, which had highlighted the plight of Delhi run MCD schools and other civic amenities which come directly under MCD....Now FYI, its BJP who has been running MCD in the most shoddy manner since 10 years.
Its the most corrupt body and is highly inefficient.

AAP has tried to streamline things and bring about efficiency. This is something which BJP just couldn't do in MCD since 10 plus years.

AAP has projected itself well. It has provided an alternative to the unscrupulous parties and leaders who rule India. Now if you have a problem with 'tiny' AAP, then it only reflects your insecurity...perhaps BJP is feeling the heat.

All said and done, AAP is the 'original content' of Indian democracy... Working on the lines of Shastri and Gandhi.

Like it or leave it..AAP is here to stay and grow. People may ridicule it now, but they may do so at their own risk.

It is surprising that Arvind Kejriwal was never transferred out of prime posting in the city of Delhi and when he was transferred for the first time to another lively city, Chandigarh he proceeded on leave. He could remain posted in Delhi throughout his career defying service rules and this reflects that he was never a thorn to the corrupt persons. As an IRS, he himself admitted that he did not take bribe , but he maintained silence against his staff taking bribe. He also gave interviews during 2009 that he was offered bribes and thence he decided to work for transparency in the system. Mind it, not only transfer, AK never had to face any tough situation during his stint as Indian revenue service officers. One can just contrast his case with case of Arun Bhatiya, G.P. Khairnar or recently Ashok Khemka who had to face 43 transfers in 19 years of service or CSS officer, Niraj Kumar who had to face 7 years of suspension and more than 15 transfers in his entire career of 15 years after being alleged to be the hand behind a website tehelka.

Kejriwal who spoke of corruption before coming to power once he became Chief minister he was a puppet of congress party he was the guy who was asking BJP to show proof against corruption the same person who was carrying all the proof during his protest.....Now whom he is making fool in this election he will be thought a proper lesson....Namo...Namo...

Whoever is saying thet NRIs do not have voting rights should feel shame. Even after 65 years of independence, why NRIs don't have voting rights? 80 lakhs graduates come out every year and where is the employment for them? Who is responsible for this? Is it not Congress and BJP and all regional parties? At present we have 600 universities- are they enough? See the conditions of Government schools in India- can we expect better things for Indians? What about health, safety, hygiene. It is sad to see the villages and poverty, lack of employment, lack of facilities of health, roads, cleanliness, safety on TV during the election time. Congress, BJP and regional parties want to divide on a community basis. But, health, education, safety, hygiene, better facilities cannot be divided on a community basis. All want a better, peaceful living. India is rich, but the corrupt politicians made the Indians poor by their corruption, mis-governance, selfishness, communal bent of mind.

Yes, I am NRI, I don't have voting right but it is in your hands to give me this right. People approach us from India and specially from Mangalore for contributions for education, health and other needs. When daijiworld posts the request to help the needy back home, the NRIs contributes irrespective of caste, community and religion. We want free India from corruption, communal division. We want India where all people get education, health, security, safety, hygiene, transport, cleanliness, environment protection. Decision is in your hands. Best of luck.

After the AAP formed the Government in Delhi, I was looking forward to support AAP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, after they threw away the golden opportunity to govern Delhi differently from the others as they had proclaimed I was dismayed and hence have decided not to support the AAP.

My folks were contemplating voting for the AAP. However, they have now decided to vote for the Congress.

AAP is a party that sounds good only on paper so please do not waste your vote.

AAP is just starting and may not be perfect at this point, but if we nurture them and contribute our suggestion, i am sure they will grow well.

If they head on the right path, i am sure by 2019, they will be a major political force in India.

In spite being new to politics, i think they did a fantastic job in a 49 days and i firmly believe that they took the right decision of backing out instead of being bogged down by running a minority govt and being pushed around by Congress and BJP.

All the best to you guys, we hope AAP wins, but if AAP does not win the BJP and their supporters will have much to thank you for.
Our/my vote is for the Congress, but believe me, we/I will be equally happy if the AAP wins, but if they lose we will have only them to blame for helping the BJP.
Guys, we are really not desperate Congress supporters, but what we desperately want is a society and a nation free from communal hatred, communal tension, no church or nun attacks, no moral or culture policing etc.
Mind you corruption can be reduced, but it is virtually impossible to eradicate corruption not only in India but anywhere in the world.
Remember that of the two evils Communal hatred is the bigger evil. Corruption under the Congress weakened the economy where the poor stayed poor (but did not get poorer), middle class never got richer but the rich got richer. As you see corruption has an economic impact which restricts development in certain areas, but the evil of Communal poison WILL BREAK THIS NATION IRREPARABLY and I cannot emphasize this enough. Anyway, you guys are educated enough to make your choice. Only time will tell, but if things go wrong don’t say that you did not know.
We share the concern of Joseph F.Gonzalves about the dividing of the secular votes and will not change our minds about voting for the Congress this time. At the same time I SINCERELY wish AAP all the best as they are secular at least till now ( I worry about Kumar Vishwas's open support for the BJP) !

Very recently Kumar Vishwas was asked in an ‘ABP News’ talk show that if he had to choose between supporting the Congress party or the BJP party which would he choose ? I was shocked to hear Kumar Vishwas reply that he would support the BJP without a doubt ! This made me nervous as I thought the AAP were a ‘communally neutral’ and ‘secular’ party in their ideology which I believe they still are but then they must not tolerate such statements from their party members and must immediately reign them in or ask them to leave.
Sometime ago Arvind Kejriwal was asked the very same question by NDTV’s Barkha Dutt in an interview, i.e. if he had to choose between the BJP party and the Congress party which would he choose ? Despite the pressure from Barkha Dutt to ‘choose a side’ Arvind Kejriwal stayed ‘firm’ and ‘solid as a rock’ in his reply, saying that even in such a situation he would neither support the Congress nor the BJP for which my respect for Arvind went up manifold. We need to have constant reassurance from the AAP that they are purely secular in their ideology, outlook and agenda. People like Arvind Kejriwal and Yogendra Yadav are ‘model’ examples of the AAP ideology. Medha Patkar seems okay as of now. I am still checking out the others.
Another person we are uncomfortable with is Prashant Bhushan for his personal views about Kashmir however Prashant has now retracted those views but Prashant is ‘shaky’ and has in the past supported BJP views though he is completely against Modi.
It would be better if Kumar Vishwas is told to join the BJP.

For me,corruption is the top most worrying factor which will dangerously affect the future of our children. All evil comes from corruption and there is no limit.
Mr. Kejriwal is not against congress or BJP or multinational companies or businessmen or rich. Whatever big developmental projects or employment generation promises congress or BJP make, the element of corruption will always accompany them.poor will remain poor.Rich and poor gap will widen dangerously.
AAP has put maximum efforts to field righteous candidates and people have clear option. It is even very difficult for righteous men to come forward as it requires courage. I wish all the best For Mr. Vasudeva, AAP Mangalore.

Dear Joseph, I fully appreciate your concern.
But UPA was there in power (for which this election is taking place now) when Mr. Yeddy threw stones at our churches and all the moral policing took place which is still going on now. But what did Congress do about it other than just voicing some mute protest ? Could the Centre do anything when Mr. Soma issued a report full of lies ? What about the huge corruption uted by Mr. Yeddy and party in Karnataka when UPA being in Centre ? What did they do ? Mr. Yeddy is still a prominent contender for MP’s seat and may soon end up as a cabinet minister !
Basically, Congress and BJP are the same companies with different names. We sincerely should support some honest and hard working and non-communal people as MPs.
I truly appreciate Mr. Michael’s gesture and wish Mr. MR Vasudevan full success. Every day we see how much Mr. Michael is donating for various causes and for philanthropic activities in Dubai. Surely this will be a big boost for MRV and AAP as a whole. It may not win many seats, but we must try to put an end to corruption and communalism somewhere.

    You people tell us:

Do we need again and again elections what bjp and kejriwal are craving for.

The bjp is catching the nerve of the Christian faith and Kejriwal doesn't know how to cope with the economy and the market.

The outright reducing of the electricity bill is one of the examples.

Why did Kejriwal run away by resigning without discussing the Jan Lokpal Bill in the assembly?!

He had the support of congress and the congress didn't took back the support. Of course the J.L Bill congress didn't support because it was one side of AAP

People use relentlessly whichever is cheap.

God and the faith in Him is more important than the country.
