Rons Bantwal for Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai (AF)

Mumbai, Apr 2: The ‘Sri Guru Narayana Literary Award – 2006’ was presented to Solhapur’s veteran writer Ananta Ramachandra Toro at the Billavara Bhavan Shree Narayana Guru Hall, Santa Cruz recently.

The award has been instituted by the monthly ‘Akshaya’ published by Billawara Association here.

The ‘Sri Narayana Guru Yakshagana Award – 2006’ was presented to Ramayya Rai on the occasion. The award was presented by renowned Yakshagana scholar Dr Raghav Nambiar.

The programme was presided over by Billawara Association president Jaya C Suvarna. Dr Rahul Toro in the absence of his father Dr Ramachandra Toro was felicitated by well-known writer Prof Vasant Kushtagi who was the chief guest. Dr Toro was presented with presented a cash award of Rs 10,000, a memento and a citation.

Members of the editorial board of ‘Akshaya’ Eshwar Alevoor, Harish Hejamadi, Gangadhar Paniyoor introduced the guests.

Association vice-president Y Nagesh, V R Kotian, L V Ameen, honorary treasurer Bhaskar V Bangera, ladies wing working president Jayanti V Ullal and cultural sub-committee working president B Koosappa were present on the dais.

Nityananda Kotian compered. There was also a Yakshagana presentation by Guru Narayana Yakshagana troupe.
