Thiruvananthapuram, June 19 (IANS): The Kerala government feels that comprehensive legislation is needed to address cyber crimes especially in the context of the Supreme Court quashing certain sections of the IT Act, said a Kerala minister.

State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, said this here on Friday while inaugurating a seminar on Cyber Governance and Cyber Security.

"A multi-stakeholder expert group will be constituted to provide specific recommendations based on best practices from around the world for this," said Chennithala.

He also pointed out that efforts should be made to make young people aware about their rights and responsibilities in the cyber world especially in the context of increasing cyber crimes in Kerala.

"The safe campus, clean campus programme in its next stage would aim at creating awareness about cyber security in colleges," added Chennithala.

He also stressed the need to build the capacity of the police force to tackle the cyber menace and expressed the hope that the initiatives in the pipeline through a police university will help address the problem.
