Mangaluru, Jul 9: After several days of dry spell, rain returned to visit coastal belt of Karnataka on Wednesday. While rural areas of the district got good rainfall all through the day, the city and adjoining areas like Ullal, Suratkal and Mulky experienced sunshine with some patches of drizzle in between. Puttur, Karkala, Beltangady and Bantwal got heavy rain.

However, rain returned with vengeance on Wednesday night. Normal to heavy rain battered almost all parts of the twin-districts throughout the night. While temperature went down, roads were flooded, Hosmath bridge near Subrahmanya was inundated, underground drains overflowed, and streams of water were seen flowing through the roads. Electricity played hide and seek, creating problems for those who depended on machinery.

The meteorological department has predicted normal rain on July 9 and 10, followed by heavy rainfall from July 11 to 14. It also said that coastal areas can expect strong wind with a velocity of 45 to 55 knots per hour in the coming days.

Public works department has requested people to contact the following officials in case of rain-related problems like trees falling across roads, caving in of roadsides, blocked drains resulting in flow of water on the roads etc. People in the Mangaluru taluk can contact executive engineer, A G Dharmaraj (9481819642), assistant executive engineer, H M Harish (9880227429).
