Former Marseille president accused of corruption

Paris, Sep 17 (IANS): Former president of French football club Olympique de Marseille Jean-Claude Dassier was accused on Thursday of corruption related to the management of several signings, according to judicial officials.

Dassier was charged with "public fund abuse, criminal conspiracy and forgery" in the light of investigations on various signings which are considered suspicious, reports Efe.

Dassier, who chaired the French club from 2009 to 2011, appeared on Wednesday before the judge investigating the transfers of 14 players.

The investigation revealed that Marseille could incur losses up to 55.3 million euros ($62.5 million) due to commissions in these transfers.

The judicial investigations, which opened in July 2011 and January 2013, revealed that several documents were found in the registered offices of the French club.
